Moderated Wordle?

Hi, Guys.
Is there a way to play this with JFW? I'm using JFW2021 and Win10. Thanks, Dani |

If you use Chrome as your browser, there is an add-on that does make Wordle accessible with JAWS. In the Chrome browser, press the alt key to open the menu, arrow down to More Tools submenu, then choose Extensions. From there, search for wordle, and it will bring up the extension that makes it accessible. You should find an Add button or something similar, and once you choose that, you should be good to go. Hope this helps. Pam -----Original Message-----

That is interesting Ed. I already played today, but tomorrow will remove the extension and see what happens. In the meantime, in case it proves helpful, based on my notes, I believe Pam found the extension as she had previously added the extension to Chrome; Dani didn’t find it since the extension hadn’t been added, and that is because Pam's instructions don't include going to the Chrome Web Store, where the Wordle extension is added. Dani, if you aren’t able to play Wordle, and want to try to add the Wordle extension, you might consider my below notes, which were created long ago when I first started playing Wordle. Content described below was in part taken from a recording of a presentation by Vispero staff explaining how to access Wordle via Chrome and JAWS.
Wordle Notes
To install the extension in Chrome: A. Method 1 1. Open Chrome. 2. Press Alt-f. 3. Type l (for more tools submenu). 4. Type e (for extensions). Focus is on the page of your extensions; search for “wordle on the page or use h to move through headings. If the extension is present, make sure it is on. If the extension isn’t found, continue with the following steps. 5. Go to top of screen, down arrow once to “main menu button” and tap Enter. 6. Click on “open Chrome Web Store”. Focus will then be on a search box; when in edit mode, type “wordle” and press Enter. 7. Tab to the checkbox, and select “extensions”. 8. Use h to move through headings, looking for “make Wordle accessible”, and tap Spacebar (NOT Enter!).. 9. Use b to find the “add to Chrome button” and tap Enter. 10. Down arrow to “add to extension button”, and tap Enter. 11. Tab to “close” and press Enter. 12. Press Control-f4 to close that window/tab; focus is back on the main menu window. 13. Arrow down to “extensions” and tap Enter. Search for “wordle” or use h to move through headings to confirm the extension is there. B. Method 2 Do a Google search for, “make wordle accessible”. The first or second result should be what is needed. Clicking on this will bring focus to the Chrome Web Store page. I believe you then continue with step 9 above.
Configuring settings to work with JAWS: 1. Do a Google search for, “wordle”; use h to move through headings, clicking on “Wordle New York Times”. 2. Open Settings Center with Insert-6 (on numbers row). 3. Press Control-Shift-w; doing this means settings are only for the New York Times website. 4. To find “smart navigation”, in the search field type “smart”. 5. Arrow down once to find this setting; use spacebar to toggle through options until “controls & tables” is selected. Doing this makes it easier to use the keyboard at the bottom of the screen. 6. Shift-Tab back to the search field and tap Backspace to clear the box. To find “navigation quick keys”, type “quick”. 7. Arrow down twice to select that setting. Toggle through options via spacebar until “off” is selected. Doing this allows you to use the keyboard. 8. Shift-Tab back to the search field and tap Backspace to clear the box. To find “typing echo”, type the letters “typ”. 9. Arrow down once to the settings. Toggle through the options via the spacebar, until “word” or “off” is selected. If “character” is selected, you will hear the letter twice (once from JAWS and a second time from Wordle). 10. Press Enter twice; settings will then be saved.

People may have mentioned this, I haven’t followed the thread closely. Wordle is so easy using my iPhone and braille display, (display not required), no extensions required any more. Because of this, I wouldn't bother using my computer. There’s
a Canadian version, I also play on my iPhone and braille display, (display not required) go to canucklegames.ca. There is one button that says Enable Accessibility that is easy to find, just keep swiping right after you press "play" and then it works well.

Congratulations on the progress you have made. As for how to type letters/words, after opening the New York Times Wordle page, go to the bottom of the page and up arrow to the bottom row of the on-screen keyboard. Make sure focus is on "Enter" (bottom left key of the on-screen keyboard). Type your word on your keyboard, and then tap the Enter Key on your keyboard. Depending on your JAWS settings, you will hear letters as you type them, and after tapping Enter on your keyboard, JAWS will identify what letters are present, etc. You can navigate up to find those letters and/or whether they are present, etc. If JAWS doesn't give you appropriate feedback, refer to the steps I previously provided regarding adjusting settings in JAWS (I can resend the steps if necessary). FYI, I also begin with the word "audio" as it has four vowels, which helps narrow things down. Depending on what letters are present/missing, I try words with the letters "e" and/or "y", again helpful in narrowing things down. For example, after entering "audio", I might learn the word only has an "a", but it isn't the first letter. Also the other four letters are missing. I might then try the word "grace" or "bylaw" because those words contain the letter "a" in positions other than the first letter, and because they don't use the four missing letters. My memory is horrible, so I make notes to help me keep track of what letters have been tried, are missing, are present but in the wrong place, etc. However, if I enter a word that doesn't include a letter that I was informed is present in the word, JAWS will announce that. The notes prevent me from wasting guesses (you only get 6 attempts at guessing the word of the day) by entering letters I was informed are missing. For example, after learning "d" isn't in a word, I would waste a guess if I were to enter the word "badge". HTH Katrina -----Original Message-----

If you use a braille display, you don't have to pick out each letter on the onscreen keyboard, just write the word and press Enter. At least that works with the phone. Occasionally, I have to press dots 3-6-7-8-chord before pressing Enter. Playing
Canuckle, however, you must pick the letters from the onscreen keyboard using a braille display or not.
