Moderated Which e-mail program is best?

Jay

Hello all.

I’m trying to decide which e-mail program I should use. Now, I’m using my browser to check e-mail, but want something a little more user-friendly. I’ve heard both good and bad things about windows mail, and I also heard good and bad things about outlook. I’ve also heard good things about thunderbird as well. What is your best program, and why would you pick the program you are using?

Thanks.

Leo

The fact is that most blind people use one of those three clients, so if you’re looking for an answer to meet your needs and expectations, you should firstly know your real needs, not only your needs today, but also in the future. For instance, are you currently going through an educational process? Are you thinking of going through this in the foreseeable future?  Will you be looking for a job at some point?

Years ago I was a Thunderbird enthusiast, but  college, work, accessibility, and technical advantages made me  go for Microsoft 365. If that wasn’t the case, I would be stuck to Thunderbird! BTW, I’m a Jaws user, so, the accessibility part is crucial because Vispero provides support to Outlook since it’s fundamental in a work environment.

6 eyears,

Best,

Leo Bado

I prefer to use outlook express, it is not bloated with social media utilities, it is just eMail, plain and simple.
It has all the features you want for eMail.
I use it in windows 7 and 10.

I don't know if it is the way I have my 10 set up, but it works fine on it, and haven't had to do anything to keep it working.

And I'm the flip side, with the exception of if you know you are going to have to use Outlook "somewhere else" besides your personal Windows environment.  I'm just not a fan of Outlook from several perspectives, the biggest of which is that it does not "play well" with calendar and contact synchronization if you are not using MS-Exchange.  Yes, you can get this working via third party programs, but I hate having to use them.  I also find Outlook pretty darned bloated overall.  I want to emphasize, though, that's my opinion, and in matters of taste there's no arguing them, and yours are just as legitimate as mine.

But right now Thunderbird and Outlook are the only two very reliably screen reader supported email clients that are in support themselves.

I recoil from any definition of the relationship between artist and audience that is predicated on the audience claiming a sense of betrayal over who someone is or isn’t outside of the context in which they’re performing. What we know about an artist’s personal identity can be interesting and even illuminating; what we are entitled to know is … nothing, basically.

Via what, and by that I mean what webmail interface are you using?  Some are far more accessible than others.  Google has spent a ton of time and effort on making Gmail fully accessible, for instance.

Hi,

For me I have found Outlook to be reliable, stable, versatile and very friendly with screen readers.

That’s my two cents and many would  say I have no sense. 😊

Dan, I agree with you completely. But then I started out learning email on Outlook Express years ago. Outlook does everything I need it to do.
