Moderated What do I need to know to use SAP with JAWS?

Ann Byrne

I will be assisting with training a student to use SAP. How accessible is it? Are their tricks I need to know or settings that should be changed? Is it fairly manageable?

thanks much,

Ann

What does SAP stand for?
I know you probably figure, those who know, are the ones who know, but I for
one am not that great at acronyms, abbreviations and always forget what they
are supposed to be, and even though I have a feeling I don't know the
software in question, someone else may have some ideas.

I don't know the words exactly, but it is customer interaction software, in this case tracking usage and solving problems with payments.

Ah.
Yeah, I don't know, personally. Hopefully someone does. I think with a lot
of programmes beyond the expected ones that always get talked about on these
lists (iE, stuff from Microsoft, zoom, Google, Apple, Mozilla etc), we are
always close to being in a position where there isn't much data on the usage
of software with screen-readers, and we just have to try them out and hope
they work reasonably well, and if not, that a developer is open to making
some changes. Good luck.

SAP is the name of a large German company that provides a customer relationship management (CRM) service. Sales Force is an American competitor.

Hi Ann
We use SAP and have done so for 25 years. Whilst I don't use the cRM offering and not sure if that is the cloud on on premise version, I've found that it doesn't work very well with JAWS. We did at one stage try a specific setting with SAP but that didn't make any difference. This was a while ago now. I tend to try and use the JAWS cursor a bit if I need to however generally I'd say it is farily inaccesible. Their cloud version products appear to be a lot better. Best bet would be to ask their SAP support team to contact SAP and ask what options they may have.

Happy to discuss further if you want to reach out privately - I'm on West Austrlain time though.

Thanks, Mark. Yep. It's the CRM version. I am going to the site on Wednesday to work with the trainer and see what I can figure out.

Wish me luck!

Actually, wish my student luck. it's a fulltime job if we can make it work.

Well, JM, this has zero relevance to JAWS, but you got me curious and so I did some Googling. To my surprise, the letters do stand for something: System Analysis and Program Development. Hey Adrian.
Cool. Yes, they always stand for something, or else it'd just be a
meaningless collection of letters. People like me only remember these
combinations based on the words they stand for. So for instance, kFC is
always "Kentucky Fried Chicken" (translated in my head at least), IBM is
"international Business machines", and so on. that's how I remember these
things. There are so many abbreviations and acronyms used nowadays in
corporate speak, information technology/computerspeak, and elsewhere that it
seems impossible to actually recall what anything means unless some
verbal/linguistic meaning is attached to the random collection of letters. I
know the ultimate goal of corporations especially is to have us remember the
symbol and not the actual meaning, and they do this througha dvertising and
such (which often doesn't include the actual name, just the initials), but
it doesn't work consistently on everyone.
Anyway, now I know! Cheers.

I believe it stands for Systems, Applicaitons, Programs. I remember seeing this in german when we implemented.
