Hi, Using the latest version of Jaws, Windows 10 and Edge, when I go to gmail.com and press enter on my e-mail account to go to the page to enter the password, a dialog box pops up called the “Web Context Menu”. I press escape and it puts me right back to where I was at my e-mail address. I’ve rebooted, looked in settings, and it still pops up. It worked perfectly two nights ago. It works fine in Firefox. And more importantly, if I turn Jaws off, it works correctly. Ideas of what is wrong? Karen

Hi, Karen. Microsoft Edge is broken right now, and when you try to click on some elements of webpages, it sends a right click instead of a left click, causing the context menu to come up. It's as if you pressed your Applications key or SHIFT plus F10. The only way this will be fixed is for Microsoft or Freedom Scientific to come up with a solution.

A simple solution that works for me and some other list members is to change the JAWS setting "Link activation" from "simulates mouse click" to "send enter key". You can find this setting in the settings center under "Web/HTML/PDFs" > "Miscellaneous". You can get to the settings center by pressing JAWS+6.

What web site are you on?
Just as I have found plenty of web sites that won't accept JAWS' simulated mouse click, I am sure that there are some web site that won't take the enter key either. There are some web site that absolutely will not work unless you give them a real mouse click using a real mouse.

Hi Bill, Thanks for the explanation. About all I figured out how to do last night was to turn off all the shopping stuff in settings. That stuff was annoying to say the least. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Karen

The only apps it might affect are those that display Web pages, HTML documents (including web pages), and PDFs, and it would do just what it says, JAWS will send an enter key instead of simulating a mouse click.

Seems like any web site does that to me. It never used to happen that way in Microsoft Edge. With Narrator, it acts the way it should. What's up with that, I wonder?

Apparently the Chromium engine used by both Chrome and Edge is sending JAWS' simulated mouse click as a right click instead of the left click it should be.

Sometimes it helps to list the links with insert-f7 and press enter on the link in the list.

That is a work around that works well unless you are on a page such as a shopping site that have a lot of links that have identical text but do different things. For example a page with a list of products and each product has a "Add to cart" and a "buy now" link associated with it.

Hi,
Using the latest version of Jaws, Windows 10 and Edge, when I go to
gmail.com and press enter on my e-mail account to go to the page to
enter the password, a dialog box pops up called the “Web Context Menu�.
I press escape and it puts me right back to where I was at my e-mail
address.
I’ve rebooted, looked in settings, and it still pops up. It worked
perfectly two nights ago. It works fine in Firefox. And more
importantly, if I turn Jaws off, it works correctly. Ideas of what is wrong?

Hi, Gene. What I have found, at least with the Google Chrome browser is that, if you move to the "Add to cart" link, or the "Buy now" link associated with a product, and you open the links list with INSERT plus F7, that link will be the link that has focus in the links list. So you should be able to tab to the Activate Link selection, and press ENTER, expecting that the link you were on when you brought up the links list will be the link that will be activated.

Hi, Adrian. What Gene is saying is that there may be multiple links that say "Buy Now" or "Add to cart", so it could be impossible to know which of these to activate. What I just wrote to Gene, however is that, at least with the Chrome browser, in my experience, the link that has focus when the links list is invoked is the link that will have focus, once the links list is opened.

Actually, in my experience, the "buy now" and "Add to cart" links are separate from product and service-identifying links, and so first-letter navigation should be an aid. Yeah but how does that tell you which of the many "Buy now" or "Add to cart" links in the list is the correct one for what you want?
I am using a shopping site as an example, but I have seen other sites that can have a lot of links that all look the same.

Really? I always thought that it always landed on the first entry in the list. If that behavior is correct, that would be a good work around if the other work arounds don't work for you.
