Moderated Weather forecasts
Gene Warner
Hi everyone!
With the loss of WeatherRSS, I am now looking for a similar web site or a windows program that is accessible through JAWS and will give me the current weather plus the forecast for the next several days. I would prefer an RSS feed like WeatherRSS because it needs no additional software to be installed, but am willing to go with a program if nothing to replace WeatherRSS exists. Years ago, before I lost my vision, I used a system tray program called Wetsock and really liked it but don't think that the company that produced it is still in business, and considering its age, I'm not certain that it would even be accessible. Note that if you decide to try to find this program, I am not certain whether its name is one or two words. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot! Gene... |

While it's not free Leasey, which needs JAWS or Fusion to operate, has an amazing Weather search tool.

I am aware of Leasey's weather function, and I used to use Leasey years ago but stopped using it when I encountered problems with JAWS which was eventually traced to Leasey. Freedom Scientific said that while Leasey itself was not the source of the trouble, the fact that there were third party scripts installed into JAWS was. So ever since then, I have avoided using scripts not shipped with JAWS. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. Gene... On 3/14/2023 8:04 AM, David Goldfield wrote:

In fairness to Leasey, and as a current Leasey user, you should probably should give Leasey a 2nd chance. Judging a program, based on what you experienced several years back, is both unfair to Leasey and to yourself potentially. Returning to your original qwuestion, are you interested in weather here in the US and one or multipole locations? I, like David, very much like how Leasey handles weather; and I use (and bookmark) several NO AA weather pages for specific weather info for certain locations and general pages for types of weather info I am regularly after. |

How about going to www.weather.gov? Once you access the web site, you can enter your location into an edit box, and you will get the National Weather Service forecast and current weather for that location. You will also find the National Weather Service office that serves your particular area, and then can use their specific web site from there. I am my county's amateur radio SKYWARN Team Coordinator, and use this web site all the time, as well as others. If you have a smart phone, there are other apps you can use for this purpose as well. Gene, a friend put me on to the ap Weather Underground. It has a paid subscription version but I use the free version. The paid version gives long-range forecasts and the free one just the forecast for a day or so. You type wunderground to get it. It's brilliant because it gives the forecast for your immediate neighbourhood, not a wider area.

the first header 2 gives you current conditions and the 2nd header 2 is the forecast. If you prefer seeing as a zone forecast, the old tradional way, there is a link for that. And either can be bookmared or saved as a desktop shortcut. And, of course, by entering a different location in the search box, you can check on any location in the US you wish. Yes, wunderground is another site I often use. Personally, I prefer Weather.gov more often as the forecasts are more complete. Both are very useful. |
