Hi Tom,
Rather than doing an update, did you try to download the full version from Freedom’s site and install it right on top of yours? That’s what you should do anyway because, too often the update doesn’t work right.

Hello, everyone.
Below is the response I got from FS Technical Support regarding my issue of Jaws not talking me through the new Jaws update installation process.
I don’t find the response to be very helpful, since the only way I could replicate the issue would be to wait till the next Jaws update, and install it while on the phone with tech support.
I’m typically not a complainer, but I was hoping for a more useful response with work-arounds such as those that some of you have already outlined.

No, I just installed the update on top of the version of Jaws 2023 I already had.
I always keep things up to date, so the last version I had was the last update I had received until this week.

I’ve been using JAWS for well over 20 years now. I have never had to do an update by going to the Freedom Scientific page. I have always completed the updates as they appear on my computers. I’ve never experienced any problems.

I've had the same experience as yours; never a failure or botched update. I don't doubt that the people reporting issues have had them; but I also believe that Freedom Scientific does not see this a problem needing to be addressed. Until someone can actually replicate something, it is exceedingly to solve. Among others I have mentioned in a previous msg, it may involve a certain processor, soundcard, speech synthesizer being used -- and we can do on and on. Not sure how this can be successfully debugged. And if the work arounds work -- and Freedom Scientific doesn't view this as an issue needing to be addressed -- just use the work arounds. |
