I use control F & then press enter after typing my search term.  It doesn’t do anything except keep repeating what I typed.  I hit escape to get out of find but it doesn’t do anything either.  I have to exit & reopen the document & arrow down to what I’m looking for which takes a long time.

Ctrl-f or f3, search string, enter, escape – works as it always did here on Windows 10. Definitely a very necessary part of notepad. You are using the regular notepad that came with windows, right?

Have you checked the Wrap around radio button I previously recommended in the Find dialog in Notepad?  It is not difficult to accidentally turn this on, and if it is turned on that choice is "sticky."  It won't be turned off unless you do so.

If it's on, and there's a single instance of what you're searching for in the text file, hitting F3 will simply circle back to it again and again and again.  If there is more than one, it will cycle through them then circle back to the first after it's hit the last (or vice versa if you're searchint Up rather than Down).  You stay trapped in the Find dialog until you cancel out of it or, even worse, if you close it and hit F3, you'll land on the same items again and again, without the find dialog popping up at all.

What, exactly, do you mean by, "It doesn't do anything except keep repeating what I typed."?

Are you saying, if you type, "flower," in the find edit box it just keeps saying flower, flower, flower?   In a quick test now in a text file I have where I searched for "parts," and there are many instances of that text, each time it was landed on NVDA said, "Found next occurrence of text?"  Is that what you're expecting, or something similar, from JAWS.

I only have JAWS such that I can use 40-minute mode and that's on a WIndows 10 machine.  My Windows 11 machine doesn't have JAWS or NVDA on it at the moment.

Since someone with Windows 11 has already said they cannot replicate this, and I can't replicate it under Windows 10, I suspect some sort of corruption in Windows, which can occur.

First, I'd give this a try:  Using DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) and SFC (System File Checker) to Repair Windows 8, 10 & 11

If you are not currently running Windows 11, version 22H2, then I'd suggest updating to it and seeing if that might fix the issue.

There have been some relatively small changes to Notepad under Windows 11, but they shouldn't have this effect on the Find function.  I agree that searching scripture for chapter and verse, without having a find function, would get very tedious.

Do remember, though, that until you get this fixed you can open TXT files in Microsoft Word, so if you're familiar with the find function there this could be a workaround.

It started a couple of months ago.  I have Windows 11.  Yes I’m using Notepad that came with Windows.  I haven’t changed anything on my computer.
