Moderated Update On Keyboard Problems; was - FW: a keyboard problem ...
Eileen Scrivani
Hello again,
This has been so stressful and strange since the problem with my keyboard seems to have come out of the clear blue and went away almost as though it never existed. Last night after getting some information from this list that my keyboard was a "gaming" keyboard" I searched for "game" on the computer. I did find settings for games on the computer which Jaws said Game Mode was on. I clicked it to off and got out of the control panel. I restarted the computer, but still there was no change with my original MS ergonomic Surface Wireless keyboard not responding, and the issues with the function keys not acting normally on the USB connected Newlea keyboard and the HP wireless keyboard.
Flash forward to this morning when my brother-in-law came over again to try and help me resolve the problem. First on the USB connected Newlea keyboard there is a function button located right smack in the middle of the keyboard where the split is. I pressed that and the functions started behaving like the function keys needed for use with Jaws and other programs.
Next my brother-in-law tried pressing the pairing button yet again on the MS Surface Ergonomic wireless keyboard and bingo it wanted to pair with the computer. We went through the steps to pair and it worked! I am not sure if turning off that Game mode last night made any difference in this problem but I'm glad it appears to be fixed.
Thanks for the tips and suggestions. If gaming had not been mentioned I'd not have thought to go looking for those settings. I did not turn them on and don't know if they had been set all these months or not. I just hope this problem does not rear up again.
Eileen.

a Keyboard Problem.
Hi,
I am not sure if this might be a jaws problem or not. I have a MS Surface Ergonomic slpit keyboard that is wireless. It had been working fine then I could not get any response when I’d type on it. I have changed the batteries and even brought it back to the shop where I bought it. They confirmed it is working fine.
They said just bring it home, unpair it and the pair it again with my Windows 11 HP computer. The computer will not allow the unpairing of the keyboard. I am wondering if I might have accidentally set some type of Jaws setting that is preventing the clicking of the mouse or typing on the keyboard. Is it possible?
Any one have thoughts on what I might check settings wise to see if I can unpair and then pair again?
Or if there is a Jaws setting/command I might have set and somehow locked the keyboard?
Thanks.
Eileen

Hi, Eileen. It could have been turning off game mode as you suggest, or it could have been your brother-in-law pressing that function key in the middle of your keyboard. I would make sure you know where that function key is, in case low battery strength causes your keyboard to revert to its default settings.
