Hello,

After this message, please inform the moderators to end this thread. However, that’s what happens to me too after reporting log data with JAWS+Windows+F4. I really wish Vispero would combat that by allowing the screen reader to come up again—I think it used to, right?

Thank you,

Ashleigh Piccinino

I used it when everything went silent while trying to go through my history on Edge. It even said it sent a report to FS. Hopefully that will help them fix the issue. It did not bring Jaws back up or did Jaws start speaking again this time. I had to restart it with the shortcut key. I’ll keep trying. <smile>

Try pressing this combination of keys, jaws plus. Windows plus F4. This will force a reset of jaws, Not reinstalling the program, but reloading jaws with diagnostic data. Going to freedom scientific.

Hi,

I am noticing that at times there is a delay with Jaws speaking. I can open a browser-Edge or Firefox-and sometimes there is a delay. Jaws goes silent for a few seconds or so. The same is true sometimes when I open an e-mail and try to listen to it.

Is there something I can do about this?

You can restart JAWS by doing the following:

Layered keystroke insert space, then F4.

I hope this helps.

or, do, as I do, and create a desktop short-cut to restart Jaws or a
Windows hotkey to do the same.
Come to think of it, does not Jaws already have a hotkey?

What exactly is JAWS+Windows+F4 supposed to do?

Thanks!

The keystroke is supposed to shut down jaws, create a dump file (a sort of log of thes tate of the machine when the keystroke is pressed), and restart JAWS. However if jaws is so messed up that you need to invoke this command, there's a fair chance it just wno't work. I mean, for the keystroke to work, JAWS after all has to be running sufficiently to recognise that it's being called. SO yeah, if something really has crashed, there seems especially a chance it won't restart.

The one I had happen last week caused Jaws to stop talking. I did the command. Jaws did not come back. I discovered it was actually closed and not coming back up. I used the hot key to bring it up. It then sent a dump file to FS.
