It's very simple, while JAWS is running the update installer is going to run into file in use conflicts that it then has to configure wWindows to take care during the next reboot. Most of the time this process works as expected and you are good to go, but what happens when it doesn't? Are you savvy enough to figure out what you need to do to fix the problems? I'm not. So I prefer to exit JAWS so that the update will encounter fewer, if any, file in use conflicts so it can update all the files it needs to. I find that doing that avoids a lot of possibilities for problems to occur and makes for a much smoother update.
Do you have a problem with that?

No, I cannot claim to be savy enough to get myself out of a jam. No, I do not have a problem with that. I am not going to comment any further.

No, I said so what because it doesn't matter to me that the self-voicing feature has been removed.

I got a response from Freedom Scientific about the installer voice. They said that because the installer voice was actual recordings taking them out reduced the size of the installer significantly. There was also the logistics involved in recording the messages in all the languages they supported.
Both reasons, installer size and the availability of Narrator, as reasons for taking the installer voice out make sense.
