Hi Dave,
After you press the spacebar on the Safe Boot checkbox
and tab 1 time to, Boot Options, there will be 4 radio buttons and networking is
one of them.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go Dodgers!

Subject: Sound settings do not appear to be turned on in Safe Mode in Windows 10
Hello everyone:
The subject line says it all. Earlier today, I checked the check box to have the system boot to safe mode, under the Boot Tab in MsConfig, saved the setting change then, I restarted the computer. . However, after waiting for about 2 minutes, I determined that the sound settings for the default sound card are not enabled for Windows 10 in Safe Mode. I was certain that the system had restarted in Safe Mode, and on that assumption, I used another computer with MsConfig to follow the steps, to uncheck the check box for the original computer then, I restarted the computer, which started in full Windows mode.
I have no idea how far back this problem goes, I do remember, the System Sounds were turned on for the last major update in 2019 because, I can remember booting Windows 10 into Safe Mode at that time and being able to use both Narrator and NVDA
Do you now need to initialize a setting in standard Windows in order for the System Sounds to be turned on for safe mode?

Sorry I pasted the contents of the REG
file.

I didn't paste it for anyone to try to figure it

Annabelle, I have no idea why Glenn/Lenny's registry edit script contains that key ( Şοûпđ, νìδ℮ô άήδ ğªмè ¢őήťřόℓŀèґ !!! !!! !). That key should be, "Sound, video and game controllers" I have double checked from the download link he gave, and this weird character sequence is present for the install and remove regedit scripts. I have to presume it was an accident that was somehow carried over at some point. --

Glenn:
Once I have finished doing what I need to do in
Safe Mode, and I need to return my Windows 10 system back to standard Windows
mode, do I need to uncheck the Network option firsdt, then uncheck the Safe Mode
option or, does unchecking the Safe Mode option, automatically disable the
Network option at the same time?

Dave,
In my windows 10, in the msconfig utility, I only
get the network option after I use space bar on safe mode, and after that,
there will be items to check with the space bar, like network.
HTH.

Did you see the message I posted to Brian earlier
today?
None of the systems which I am running Windows
10, show an option called "Safe mode with Networking". Do I need to do
something in order for that option to be shown in the Boot Tab in
MsConfig?

Hi Dave,
That message is supposed to come up, it usually
scares people, but something would be wrong if it did not pop

William,
Thank you very much. Now it's been around
a year since Google imposed a new security requirement, and I've gone in to as
many of my links and corrected them as I could remember, but apparently not
this one.
Getting Sound in Safe Mode Under
Windows 10
That link should work. It's a ZIP
file and you should save it to your Desktop (or copy it there from wherever it
downloads) and unzip it there. After the unzipping, the ZIP file can be
deleted. The instructions for using it after you've unzipped it
are in the folder in a plain text file.
If there are any additional
issues, please let me know. --

And when you've changed the bits on the Boot tab to have Safe Mode at boot, the radio button on the general tab is automatically switched to the third radio button, "Selective Startup", with it's first two checkboxes checked. (And it stays that way unless you reactivate the Normal startup radio button). --

I wonder, will this file of Sound in Safe Mode let JAWS run in there? Or is it just for Narrator and NVDA?

Hi Dave,
In msconfig on the, General tab, my Windows10 system is
set on, Selective, startup so, make sure you check your General tab setting so
you know what to go back to after you're done in safe Mode.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi Dave,
You might have read the answer to that already, but
if not, then I'll add that you have to uncheck safe mode to boot to
normal.
I don't know if you have to check networking every
time you check safe mode, or if it keeps your last setting.

Annabelle,
It is just audio, so whatever uses the sound card
can then work in safe mode, it means you can play audio files in safe mode
too.

- That depends on whether you've checked another checkbox on this same tab that says something like "retain the selected settings" or not. I never retain them, so I always make the choice each time. That checkbox is standalone and comes after the Safe Mode checkbox and radio button set. --
