Moderated Smart glance and Microsoft Word
Hello everyone,
I noticed that this amazing and wonderful new feature introduced in Jaws 2023 Beta only works in Web Pages and PDF documents. It would be outstanding, however, if it will work in Microsoft Word because it will make easier to go straight to the text that contains some attributes. Is there any beta tester in this lists? I’m using the Beta, but we all know that FS pays much more attention to some users than others. I’m not whining or complaining, just saying that this feature is worth someone letting know these guys the amazing feature that it would be…
Best,
Leo Bado

Hi,
I’d use the beta feedback form, because since the beta is public, you are quite entitled to feed it back.
Are you sure it doesn’t work? You did turn on virtual cursor in Word?
All the best

Yes, exactly .In addition, for users in general, a quick navigation key was added, which is the Y key, so if you find yourself peering around a web page, you just push Y or shift plus Y, and you will be taken to those highlight places where Jaws couldn’t get so quickly before. These highlight information generally represents attributes in the font, such as underline, italic and bold. I believe it is a wonderful feature because it seems to work in both web pages and PDF documents; however, sadly it doesn’t seem to work in Microsoft Word, and particularly in this text editor, it would make so much easier for the user to peer around the document.

Not exactly a summary. Sometimes a web page will not have good semantic markup from the developers. That means that the page might lack headings or landmarks. For a screen reader user, this makes navigation more difficult. The smart glance feature is an attempt to place the Jaws focus at a place on the page where the user might find interesting information. Ryan Jones talks about it in one of the FSCast episodes. It is a work in progress and your results will vary depending on the web page.
a sighted person. It may not be a link or heading, but merely a font change.
But anything that grabs the eye.
It's unique as far as I know in the screen reader world.
All the best

It jumps to an area of attention that is only visual. Shift Y goes to the
previous glance.

Hi, Ann. It's supposed to give a person a summary of what a webpage
contains, based on the input you give it.
