Openbook has gotten extremely finicky lately. Bummer, because it is a very useful tool. Changes to the HP driver could have caused the problem. Changes to drivers or other items in Windows could do the same. If you haven’t changed anything, then it is most likely one of these. I’ve got some options if you want to stay with Openbook.
First, try unplugging and replugging in the scanner, the connection at the scanner and the one at the computer. It is possible something jarred loose. Openbook likes nice tight connects where Windows might not care so much.
Second, someone suggested making sure the scanner you have is chosen in Openbook.
Third, you can choose another scanner. FS makes one that stand up over the page and scans that way. It works with both Jaws and Openbook. If mine goes out, this is what I’m planning to get instead of replacing Openbook.

That is the one. A shame it is sitting on the shelf unused. Some day I want to get one.
Since I read books with mine, I wouldn't have that problem. Thanks for letting me know. Hmmm, I wonder if tilting the envelope slightly would have helped.
