Moderated Saving Text From A Powerpoint Presentation
Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.
I have just been sent a powerpoint presentation about which someone wants my feedback.
I know there are graphics in the presentation, so I’m trying to save the text from the power point slides so I can at least provide feedback on that.
However, I’m having trouble saving the text in an RTF file format.
Whenever I save the file as an RTF, I think I only get the first slide, and I think there are 16 slides in total.
Here are the instructions I’ve tried so far:
Press f6 to get to the summry pane. Then use save-as to save it as an RTF file.
Or:
Use the f6 key until you hear slide thumb nail and then ctrl shift tab to notes, ctrl a to select all and ctrl to copy. Then, open a Word document and paste. That way you have only the text from all of the slides.
Any help would be appreciated.
I’m obviously missing something.

Try this:
Now you have the whole stinkin’ file. I don’t know what happens to the graphics, but all the words will be there. You could also save it as text, using the same process, and for sure that would get rid of the graphics.
Good luck!

Ann:
I tried your approach.
I couldn’t find a save as text option in the file types.
I did find RTF outline, so saved the file that way, but, like before, I think I only get the first page or slide.
From what I can tell, there are 16 slides.

Hello Tom:
You could try saving as a PDF. That usually works for me.

It doesn't say 'text'; instead says "plain text". and I'll bet you got all the slides.

Recently I nearly made the same mistake in another context. Fortunately, I paused long enough to arrow through the "save as" options. "Plain text" isn't the only slightly different name in that list from what we normally call a format, so arrowing through the options can save frustration.

Unfortunately, when I access the list of file types in which to save the powerpoint presentation, plain text does not appear in the list of 29 possible options. I did try saving the presentation as a PDF document, and then converted it into Word, but I loose all references to specific slides, and the presentation does not make total intuitive sense. Will continue to investigate here. Appreciate any further suggestions. Tom Behler -----Original Message-----

One brute force method is to run the slide show with F5. JAWS brings them up as virtual pages. You can copy and paste each page into Word or somewhere else. That is brute force, inelegant, but perhaps functional.

I’m not sure how to do this, but I would like to know how to convert just a plain Microsoft Word file into a PowerPoint format, kind of along the same vane as what you were asking. Because right now I just have thoughts on a page on a word document and I need what I have to be a PowerPoint, and PowerPoint isn’t really my strongest forte either.

Hi, I recommend that you search on the Freedom Scientific website for pass webinars for instructions on creating Powerpoint using JAWS and making them accessible.

How do you know what a virtual page is? Is that the same as thumbnails? Obviously, continuing to learn here. Tom Behler -----Original Message-----

By virtual page, I mean that JAWS will bring up the slide show as if you were on a web page. You can then press Space to move to the next slide or p to move to a previous slide. Cordially, Curtis Chong -----Original Message-----
