Moderated Replacement for Thunderbird?

Gene Warner

I probably should have noted this in my original message but, the replacement does not have to be free, if the program works well, does what I need, and is accessible, I am willing to pay for it. There does need to be a trial though, I will not pay for software without being able to try it out first.

I came from Becky to t-bird, but there isn't any good and accessibility reasoning I used to keep with t-bird. Becky's filters are somewhat easier to use, and Becky is not free except the first 40 days, and if you wish the archive I'll make a link for you. There is a specialized help file for Becky, like Audacity, for example, which is quite comprehensive.

What really did it for and caused me to go back to 91 was that the address book was completely different, so different that it wasn't a matter of just getting used to it, I found it much more difficult to manage. The simple list of contacts was gone, it was replaced with a drop down list. So I looked for options that might restore the address book to what I preferred, but could not find anything.

Hi everyone!

I recently upgraded Thunderbird to version 102 from version91 and wow! I did not like the changes at all, in fact I just finished downgrading it back to version 91.

The problem now is that I won't be getting any more updates, especially any security fixes that might come up. So now I am in the hunt for something to replace it. I don't need the kitchen sink thrown at me like Outlook does. I just need a simple and accessible email client that can do IMAP. I use GMail and want to keep my email on the server. Any recommendations?

I was also using Thunderbird's RSS capability  to monitor the podcasts for new episodes to download on my Victor Reader since I have it set up for manual downloading of podcast episodes, but that is for another topic.

Thanks!

I know, since I do a full system backup every Saturday, I had copies of my profiles from version 91 which made going backwards a snap.

Maybe other email clients also have this feature but Outlook 2013 certainly did not which is why that client is not used any more by me.

It's funny you call that folder "everything". Everything is a great little file searching utility from Void Tools.

A bit off topic but I couldn't resist. :-D

You can copy Becky's "everything" folder which is under the  main "my documents folder by default.
all of your different profiles are stored within that main folder:

Well there's the outlook express, I use it and some people using windows 10 are using it.
You will need to set up the two step verification with a gMail account and enter the password they give you into the outlook express.

Well, good luck finding a replacement for Thunderbird, because if you are looking for a free email client that offers comparable accessibility and features, you will have a tough time finding one.  You could switch to the Windows 10 Mail app, but if you didn't like Thunderbird, you will almost certainly hate, hate, hate this email client.  Your only other option would be Outlook, which of course, isn't free, or some other paid client like Becky's Email, which I am not familiar with.  Happy searching.

Besides, who is to blame is beside the point. Whether I saw it now by mistakenly downloading 102 before I should have or whether I waited until Mozilla offered it through the update channel, the point was that I could see where Thunderbird was going and I didn't like it, so it is time to look for something to replace it with.

Throwing out blame was pointless and accomplished nothing.

Now can we just drop it and get back to the original question?
