moderated Problem with jaws.

I have jaws set to speak at the logon screen, and to start speaking after I log in.  The problem I'm having is that once it starts up again, insert-j does nothing.  If I quit jaws and restart, it works fine.  I tried a repair, and that didn't change anything.  It looked so promising on first boot, but I rebooted again, and it was back to problems.  I'm stumped.

Do you have it set to run from sys tray?

Are you running Win 10 version 20 2H? This morning my laptop and Surface Pro both updated to the new OS and they both have the intermittent issue you are having. Guess it is time to give Jaws or Microsoft some feedback. Of course, I do not know which one is causing the behavior.

Try not using systray and see what happens -- it is working fine here
and I am not using systray.

Hi, Chris. Are you, by chance, using the new $90 per subscription to JAWS instead of using a 2-year SMA? If so, this is part of the problem. The new licensing scheme is causing problems for JAWS users. Try quitting JAWS with JAWS key plus F4, then restart JAWS using the shortcut on the desktop, or,

Press Windows key plus R for the run dialog.

At this dialog, type in the JAWS version you are running, E.G.

JAWS2021

This is a problem that will afflict you each time you start the computer.

I hope this helps you.

No, I'm using the old sma method.  I have had this going on for a while, but I never thought to look around and find out if it is in the sys-tray when it happens.

I'll give that a try.  If it gets in my way I could maybe put it on another desktop or something.

I'm running the latest version of windows 10, and things are fine on one computer, but not on the other.  Weird!

I am running the 2 year SMA and have the problem. And yes you can stop from having Jaws in the system tray but that is not a solution to a bug.

The more complaints FS gets about this issue the more likely fixing it will become a higher priority.  Though there is an obvious workaround, Marie is correct that a workaround and a solution/fix are not one and the same.
