Hello, Has anyone encountered any problems using FireFox? I press control f to search on the page. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t do anything. Plus the time I do anything on the page it will take 30-40 seconds before anything
happens. My download speed is 240 MBPS. I started using FireFox since Google has the problem of a menu coming up when pressing enter on a link on the page. Thanks, Kevin

Why control-f? Insert ctrl-f is what you should be using with jaws,
ctrl-f just uses the browser to search its page, and that has never
worked well with speech.

This may be a configuration provided by Vispero but with Internet Explorer and now with Edge I have always used control+F and it has always brought up the JAWS search dialog, not the browser's.

You need insert with NVDA, but not
Jaws.
Just control F works well for me and always
has.

Was there a recent update? These problem reports have started all of a sudden so I am curious.

I answered my own question, the last release is 105.0.2 and I have 105.0.1 and don't have any of these problems with it.
This makes me very glad that I have disabled Mozilla's updates. In order to update Firefox or Thunderbird I have to go download it manually.

Hi, Rosie. To find out what version of Firefox you have,
1. Open Firefox. 2. Press ALT followed by the letters T, then S. 3. In the search box, type update. 4. TAB to the link that says, What's New, and press ENTER. 5. On the page that opens, it will say the existing version of Firefox on your computer.

While in Firefox, press alt+H to get the help menu, then look for About and select it. You'll get a tab or dialog with version information. Or you can press the JAWS key+control+V and JAWS will announce the program name and version of the program you are running, in this case Firefox.

An even simpler way to find the version number of Firefox on a system is, with Firefox open, to press JAWS key-control-v. This keystroke produces the same information for almost all applications. In case this is of interest, I just opened Firefox. I was told immediately that it was updating and would return momentarily. It did so with V. 104.XXX. But when it returned, I was told an even newer version was available. I had to close Firefox and restart it. Lo and behold, what had become V. 104.XXX had become V. 105.0.1. YOU can tell I hardly ever use this browser. -- My novel Caroline is now available in paperback, Kindle and audiobook versions and, for qualified readers in the US, at the National Library Service/BARD. Hi, Adrian. Though I am familiar with the JAWS keystroke, JAWS key-control-v, when I tell people how to do something, I usually give a universal way to do the procedure. This way, they can accomplish what they are trying to do regardless of their screen reader.

Bill, It's a good policy. On the other hand, when JAWS gives users a simple way to do something, I like to take advantage. Not only is JAWS key-control-v easy to remember, but as I mentioned, it saves having to remember or look up each application's method for locating its version number. -- My novel Caroline is now available in paperback, Kindle and audiobook versions and, for qualified readers in the US, at the National Library Service/BARD. While all of that is true, it is a rare app that doesn't have a Help > About option to get its version number.

I answered my own question, the last release is 105.0.2 and I have 105.0.1 and don't have any of these problems with it.
This makes me very glad that I have disabled Mozilla's updates. In order to update Firefox or Thunderbird I have to go download it manually.

Hello, Has anyone encountered any problems using FireFox? I press control f to search on the page. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t do anything. Plus the time I do anything on the page it will take 30-40 seconds before anything happens. My download speed is 240 MBPS. I started using FireFox since Google has the problem of a menu coming up when pressing enter on a link on the page. Thanks, Kevin

Another way, and I am pretty sure that this is where JAWS gets the version information from, is to find the .exe file and check the properties. Under the details tab you will see the version number. JAWS isn't always successful at obtaining this info, and I suppose this makes sense, since this property information is not always recorded where it should be.

I have the same experience,a nd it is definitely some sort of tweak FS made. It does not apply to waterfox for instance nor vivaldi I think. If you press ctrl-f in those, you do not get jaws find but the browser's feature.

It is not control+V, it is JAWS+control+V where JAWS is either insert or caps lock, whichever is you JAWS key.
