Moderated Need Instructions For Setting Up A New E-mail Account In Outlook
Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve done this, and I can’t seem to locate the instructions I previously had for setting up a new e-mail account in Outlook.
Could someone send me an easy set of steps for accompishing this, without adversely affecting the other two e-mail accounts I currently use in Outlook?
I’m using Outlook with Microsoft 365 here on a Windows 10 PC with Jaws 2023.
Thank you!

Tom,
In Outlook 2016 the Add New Account function is triggered using the keystrokes: ALT + F, I, D. It is very likely to remain the same through M365. The process after that is pretty much self explanatory at each step presented by Outlook itself. Outlook does all of the heavy lifting and there's very little beyond the email address, password, and a few other small bits of information you need to enter. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045 If you cannot or will not imagine the results of your actions, there’s no way you can act morally or responsibly. Brian:
These instructions worked, so thank you very much.
Interestingly, now, whenever I close Outlook I get a send/receive progress message that I didn’t get before, but I guess I can live with that.
I now have 3 e-mail accounts in Outlook; my personal account from which I’m writing this e-mail, my University account, and the third account that I just set up.
So, that might explain the additional alert now when I close outlook.

- It probably does. I can never remember what the default is now, but Outlook has always had the ability to toggle on/off a final send-receive cycle when closing Outlook. I always have it on because if I sent a message, and it's sitting in the Outbox and a send/receive cycle has not started yet, I want one to happen so it goes out before Outlook closes. The more accounts you have the longer it takes in total, as each mail server has its own send-receive. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045 If you cannot or will not imagine the results of your actions, there’s no way you can act morally or responsibly. Brian:
I bet the new send/receive progress notification comes from the new account I just added.
I may leave it on, but if you can tell me how to turn it off for that account if I want to, that would be great.
Thanks again for the help.

Maybe you could try changing the send/receive interval… Brian, if there’s a better way or if my idea wouldn’t solve the problem then please help Tom; it’s just a thought that I had.

Tom,
All of this, including changing the send/receive interval [which now defaults to a ridiculous 30 minutes] is done via the Send/Receive Ribbon, Send/Receive Groups. [ALT + JS , G] Microsoft's own documentation on Send/Receive groups is quite good: Why use Send/Receive groups? and Change send/receive group settings See also the results of this web search: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Outlook+Send-Receive+groups -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045 If you cannot or will not imagine the results of your actions, there’s no way you can act morally or responsibly. Thanks for this, Brian.
Once again, I’ve saved this for future reference, in case I get tired of hearing the send/receive notification.
For now, I’m keeping things as is.

Kimsan
To schedule a send/receive 30 minutes? Wow! That’s a long time. When I checked, it said two minutes…
