Hi, Joseph. You can still turn JAWS off by pressing JAWS key plus SPACE followed by the letter S. There is no need to turn on the voicing of the SPACE BAR for that.

Hi, Joseph. You can still turn JAWS off by pressing JAWS key plus SPACE followed by the letter S. There is no need to turn on the voicing of the SPACE BAR for that.

JAWS, Muting Voicing Of Keys
1. Open the Settings Center with, Insert + 6 on the number row, & press, Control, Shift + D, to open Settings Center Default All Applications. Note: If you only want to mute keys in a specific app / program open the Settings Center while in the specific app / program, Insert + 6 on the number row. If you want to mute keys in all programs you need to do this in Settings Center default all applications. 2. Arrow down to, Keyboard, & press right arrow to open. 3. Down arrow to, General, and right arrow to open. 4. Arrow down to, Manage Key Labels, & press the space bar to open. Note: Do not press enter, pressing enter will close the Settings Center. 5. After pressing the spacebar you will be in a list of keys. Arrow down to the key you want to mute, & Tab 1 time to the, Toggle Mute Button, & press the space bar to mute. You'll hear Jaws announce, for example the Space key, Space Space mute. 6. Tab to, Okay, and press the space bar. 7. Tab to, Apply, and press the space bar. 8. Tab to, Okay, & press enter to save your change & close the Settings Center.

Hi, Joseph. Speech on demand means that JAWS won't speak unless you arrow, or something like that. It shouldn't be set on Speech On Demand, if you want JAWS to be muted. You should go into Speech Options, under Miscellaneous, in JAWS Settings, and set it to speech mute instead of speech on demand.

Hi, Joseph. You don't want to do anything with speech mute. Instead, 1. Open Settings Center in JAWS by pressing JAWS key plus six on the numbers row. 2. Press CONTROL plus SHIFT plus D to load the Default JAWS Configuration. 3. In the search box, type the word echo. 4. When you see Typing Echo, press ENTER on that. 5. TAB to OK, and press ENTER. 6. Now the setting will stay.
