moderated Muting alt, shift, and control key voicing

I'm new to the list and can't seem to find what I'm looking for in the JAWS help. A game I play uses alt-F3 to read the letter in focus using phonetics. I need this to distinguish certain letters such as b, d, p, and t from one another. The voicing of the alt f3 covers the phonetics so that they are useless. I have functioned without the conflict until recently when I must have inadvertently changed some setting. How do I turn off the voicing of key labels such as f3, alt-f3, shift-f3, and control-f3?

Try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center with, Insert + 6 on the number row, & press, Control, Shift + D, to open Settings Center Default All Applications. Note: If you only want to mute keys in a specific app /
program open the Settings Center while in the specific app / program, Insert + 6
on the number row.
If you want to mute keys in all programs you need to do
this in Settings Center default all applications.

open.
4. Arrow down to, Manage Key Labels...., & press the
spacebar to open. Note: Do not press enter, pressing enter will
close the Settings Center.

The justification was that the modifier keys were used with other keys as well. Nonetheless, I am functioning again. As a Window-eyes forced convert to JAWS, I have been reluctant to learn all the intricacies of JAWS. I'll get there eventually I suppose. The JAWS list is very helpful in the interim. Thanks again.

David, There is so much to learn with various settings in JAWS. I think another possible option for you, depending on how the game works, is to turn on Speech on demand. I just tried it and found that it won’t voice the keystrokes. I sometimes use it if I’m in a situation where JAWS is being heard over a conference call or computer phone call and I don’t have an earphone to plug in. Hit Insert spacebar for the layered commands, then the letter s. You should hear “speech on demand”. If the game is self-voicing or you can use insert up arrow to read the lines you want on demand, it would keep all your other keystrokes silent. To get out of the mode, just repeat the steps and you’ll hear JAWS say “Full speech”.

Hi, Glenn. One way of avoiding hearing the word space when playing a word in code in Winamp is, instead of using the space bar to pause play in Winamp, use the letter C to pause and resume play in Winamp. Winamp will not voice the letter C when pausing and resuming play in Winamp.

C is pause, and if the file is longer, resumes play. If you have an mp3 file of music or something like that, or an mp3 podcast, try the letter C, and see if it resumes play.

I used to use those many moons ago, and now adays,
when playing tracks, I typically use spacebar, C and the arrow
keys.
But for starting a track, you have to use X or
space.

About all I need to know about winamp, is if there
is a way to make a track loop.
I went through the menus but found
nothing.
I would not want it for all tracks, just a
on-demand feature.

press r to toggle repeat on or off. That will repeat the currently playing track or tracks, depending on what you selected. If you used l to open one single file or opened it from within Windows explorer, that will repeat that file. If you used Shift+l to open a folder, repeat kicks in once the last track contained in that folder has stopped or you press b to advance to track one. Regards, Nermin

Hi, Glenn. Pressing R during the playing of a track will make that track loop, but only if that is the only track which is selected for playing. Pressing R to turn on Repeat Mode while multiple tracks are selected for playing will repeat all tracks, instead of repeating only the current track. You must press R again to turn off Repeat Mode.

About all I need to know about winamp, is if there is a way to make a track loop. I went through the menus but found nothing. I would not want it for all tracks, just a on-demand feature. In Winamp, I have the JAWS verbosity set to Advanced. This seems to stop the announcing of keystrokes, and limits the verbosity of the announcement of functions, for example, pressing the letter "S", JAWS will say "on" or "off", instead of saying "Shuffle Mode On" or, "Shuffle Mode Off"and the same for other functions.
The letter "C", has no effect, if there is no track playing.
If you have a library of files in a .m3u file and you have it loaded in Winamp, pressing the SPACE BAR, will always play the first track, regardless of the current track which is playing.
Likewise, if you exit Winamp and restart Winamp, pressing the SPACE BAR, will play the track list from the beginning.
