Karen,
I’d try thunderbird.. It works well with Jaws. There’s also the built-in mail app too, but I think Thunderbird is more customizable.

Does anyone know of an email program that works well with Jaws and is accessible other than Outlook?
Karen
Oh yeah, Thunderbird is a great option, you can use it with JAWS and with NVDA, whatever you prefer.

Thanks. I’ll take a look at it. Has anyone used Evolution?
This is me not wanting to spend $20 a year just for a mail program.

I'd spend $20 for accessibility, but not any amount for Office. Thunderbird is pretty good, but it's about to get a rebuild, and that worries me.

Hi maria,
I agree. Paying for the Jaws updates is one thing. Paying for a program or suite over and over year after year is crazy to me.
I think I will get the 2021 version and stop there. It will run out in 2026 so I have some time to learn a new mail program. I don’t want to use the one with Windows. Same devil.
That’s why I asked for other mail programs that are free or a one time purchase that are accessible.

Paying for a program or suite over and over year after year is crazy to me.-
At $70/year for M365 Personal (which includes the entire Office suite) and $99.00 per year for M365 Family, which allows up to 6 people to install the full Office suite, both of which allow each individual user to install on up to 5 devices, it's an absolute bargain, and particularly if you can get several friends and go in together on the M365 Family.
The full version of Office 2021 with all the programs that come with M365 is around $500. It takes a long time at $99/year if 6 people are in on the deal for anyone to come near to $500, and you are getting constantly updated sofware and for Office that's often a very big deal.
I currently have Office 2016, but I'll be rounding up a few friends over the next couple of years so we can all go in on M365 family once all of the year numbered versions go out of support.

I am running Thunderbird 102.8 with no issues.-
No surprise there. There was a brief period when the initial jump to the one-hundred series release of Thunderbird broke a couple of things in regard to accessibility. This very often happens whether it's because the software developers did something that the screen reader developers were not made aware of in advance, or because the screen reader developers are either behind schedule or did not include a fix for something they were made aware was changing.
In any case, the latest Thunderbird as of this writing is version 102.8 and it remains accessible.

Accessible does not necessarily mean easier to use. WhileTB 102 may be "accessible", many blind users have reported that the contacts list in the Adress Book can no longer be navigated using first letter navigation which is an inconvenience. That's why many of us have remained with TB 91 and have declined updating to 102. Mozilla has consistently demonstrated their disregard for blind computer users by constantly tinkering withthe the Tthe B interface just for the sake of tinkering.

So you don't have trouble using the first letter to bring up lists of contacts?

Knowing the program, somewhat, at least the mail part, is the reason I would prefer to stay with it. My objection is spending money on something that is “rented”. I like to buy things outright.
For those with 365 who share with others, do you have access to their email or other information? In other words, if someone else paid for it and offered me a spot, would my stuff be private.

This will probably make me about as popular as they say as ants at a picnic, but here it is anyway. I tried using Gmail as a email provider, as well as thunderbird. I always end up coming back to outlook.
the only thing you share with someone is a spot on their family plan when it comes to Office subscriptions.
You then download any apps this plan will let you use as long as the subscription is being used or renewed. Anything else is on your PC and neither seen nor shared by others.
The only thing you are effectively sharing is the right to use a paid service, nothing more.

Nermin
