moderated license update message
Van Lant, Robin
Hi, I’m running JAWS 2021. Starting yesterday, I’m getting a pop-up window when I start JAWS that says, “Your license has changed, would you like to update your authorization now? This will take less than a minute.” I assume this relates to my purchase of a new 2-year SMA last week. Unfortunately for me, you need admin privileges for this update to work and I don’t have them. Can I do this manually or should I contact me IT guy for admin rights? Does it even really matter at this time or can I just wait till I’m meeting with the IT guy to install my next JAWS upgrade? I’d just call FS.
That should be an easy fix from their side to update your SMA info.

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young." "Why, what did she tell you?" "I don't know, I didn't listen." -- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Generally if you say yes, you’ll be taken to the Internet and the FS page where it will check to see if you can be updated. It takes less than 30 seconds. Not sure how this will work if you don’t have admin privileges. You may have to ask for help from your admin for your company. They should know that this process now takes place when a new SMA begins. This is a brand new feature from Freedom Scientific and was not introduced until JAWS 2021. Larry

if you've updated your license lately you know got a new SMA by at the latest version of jaws. These will trigger this message it's just updating the file on your computer to match what's on the server. If that's not it like they said call FS. All you have to do is click yes go through the process like you said it only takes about 30 seconds. i'm sorry about all the errors I don't have time to fix them I'm using Siri dictation on my iPhone.

I didn’t need admin priveliges, but I’m the only one using my computer, so ... when i updated my authorization, of course how you described, everything went fine. Try contacting Vispero for support.

I
get that this is a company computer which admin access is only granted to the IT
personnel. You can either wait or go ahead and get the IT guy to do it. There is
no right or wrong in this process.

Yeah, it worked just fine on my personal laptop. After a couple startups on my work machine, I’m no longer seeing the message. The rep at Vispero told me it is a newer feature that allows me to see my remaining SMA updates in the help menu. She was transferring me to tech support, but I was on hold for a bit and noticed that the pop-up wasn’t coming up anymore, so I just decided not to bother right now. Sounds like it’s a nice-to-have, but she said it wouldn’t impact my installation. Maybe when I install the new update it will get resolved.
