Moderated Level headings not being announced in Word after Level Heading 3

Zel Iscel

Hi listers,

I am currently using Windows 10 with Jaws 19 and Office 365.

JAWS currently announces level headings 1, 2 and 3 in Word but not levels 4, 5 and 6. I'm sure it used to announce those levels too.

After I set the level heading to 4, 5 or 6 through the styles menu by pressing Shift + control + s, JAWS doesn't announce the level heading when I read the text. It does when I first create it but never afterwards. When I check the font by pressing insert +f it announces "head 4" among other things but I would prefer that it announces the levels the way it does for headings 1, 2 and 3.

The other annoying thing is that when I set a level heading, Windows automatically inserts level numbering - 1.1.1.1 etc.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Cheers
Zel

Hello Zel:

This is, alas, not my experience with headings. I think I am running the
same combination of software as you are. Heading levels 4 and 5 do get
recognized and spoken as I move down my document with JAWS.

Heading levels 1 through 3 can be applied simply by pressing Control With
Alt and the corresponding number. When I am on the paragraph line where I
want Heading 4 to be applied, I press Control Shift s, arrow down to heading
4, and press Enter.

Cordially,

Curtis Chong

Hi Curtis,

Thank you for your response.

I resolved the issue. I think that the company I work for has specified certain styles. I was able to override that by going into the styles menu through the home ribbon, and there was able to choose the level headings I required.

Cheers
Zel

Doesn't control Alt 4 work for heading 4?

All the best

I don't know if this will help but, in Options / Accessibility, the last setting in this tab is a setting that can be turned on / off, and it's to expand all headings when opening a document.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.
