Moderated Jaws losing focus
Val Paul
Hi Everyone!
Hope someone can help! Everyone time i turn on my computer after the start up, Jaws keeps anouncing "Losing focus" Is there any way this can be rectified? Val. |

Hi Val,
Â
Yeah, turn the damn thing off! LOLÂ
LOLÂ Okay seriously speaking now, press the, Windows key + M, to put it on
the desktop, then press, Insert / Jaws key + F10, to open the list of running
programs to see if maybe the focus was possibly changing between programs that
might be loading at startup.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sennt from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. In the end you have to ignore everything, & click I agree. |

Hi,

This is because when your computer boots, it lands in no-where land. In other words, nothing is focused. You can turn off announcement of focus loss in verbosity. All the best Steve -----Original Message-----

This should not occur at start up. Sometimes JAWS loses focus after working with one window and shifting to another but at start up is unusual in my opinion unless you have older system or programs that take long time to load. Also, JAWS is good at losing focus while working.

I would think it would be helpful to leave the announcement on because,

say, you're typing away on a reply to an email and suddenly JAWS looses focus on the window where you're typing a reply. if the announcement is turned off, much of what you typed might not make it into the reply (or whatever you're doing). apply a similar situation to typing a letter in Word or a note in Notepad, etc. -------- Original Message --------

The trouble is that if I were to turn off the announcement, I'd still have to press Windows M or Windows D to get to my Desktop and sometimes Alt-Tab in programs.

A guy who is totally blind, and works with computers told me to turn the anouncement off, so i have. While i'm on, bought a Logitech bluetooth keyboard for my fire tablet as i'm not getting on very well with the touch screen. The thing is, now i can't get a list of the key strokes anywhere. Do you happen to know of anyone who may have them? If you do, you could maybe send them to me. Thanks. Val. On 13/04/2018 15:27, Carolyn Arnold wrote:

I remember there was a fix for Windows 98, but later versions of Windows

Val, just curious, the guy that told you to turn the announcement off,

is he truly blind or can he see enough to get by with magnification to use his computer, and does he have a fix to prevent this issue from happening? again, I recommend not to turn it off for the reason I posted. FS put this feature in because blind users have in the past complained about JAWS occasionally loosing focus on the program they were typing in, which makes cense since you'd want to know so they can continue with what they were doing instead of wondering what happened to all of my work. just trying to offer some advice. -------- Original Message --------

Val, don't worry about the lack of focus message. My JAWS gives the same message when I turn on the computer and I just press my shortcut keys to open my email and go into Word.
Have a happy day. Don |

I know you are, and i appreciate that. The guy actually posted that advice to the list, and it just so happened when i heard his name i knew him! As far as i know, he's totally blind. He has a business over her in the uk. If you look at the post for around 8 a.m or thereabouts you'll see his name. I don't want to say too much don't want it coming back on me. Thanks again. Val. Press JAWS KEY A, and then try any keys or key combinations. JAWS will announce if they have any purpose.

Actually, if you boot up to Windows then immediately press JAWS key and T, you get Lost Focus, so I believe Dan is wrong in this. If you press any key after boot up, then focus is sometimes regained. All the best Steve -----Original Message-----

You don't need it on, if you're an experienced JAWS user, because you type, then check. If JAWS loses focus, it will speak the newly activated window usually. It never loses focus completely when you're in an app in my experience. All the best Steve -----Original Message-----
