Thanks for all the helpful replies. But as I was mentioning earlier, even though I am still using the October or November 2021 release of jaws 2022, I am no longer getting that automatic pop up window when my jaws first starts up asking me if I want to yes or no update my jaws to a newer release of jaws 2022? I was until about 3 or 4 days ago getting this automatic pop up window asking me if I yes or no wanted to update my jaws every time when my jaws first started up, but now I am not. This has got me stumped because as I was saying, I am still using the last October or November 2021 release of jaws 2022. I have already checked in jaws under basics, and the automatic notification of jaws updates is yes checked. Have you tried to stop JAWS after your startup has finished and then restarting again? I'd be curious to know if you then get the update window. There is some possibility that at startup, JAWS is trying to get to the information but cannot because the Internet connection is not yet fully active. Just a thought. Best regards, Curtis Chong

Is there a possibility that your SMA for Jaws has run Out? If it has perhaps that is why you no longer get the update notices. In fact, when I called them yesterday about my issue with the FS Cast bombing out in the middle of playing, I asked about my SMA and when I'm due to renew. If I update now or some time before July 28 I'll get a discount off the SMA price. These discounts are run during the ACB & NFB conventions so you might want to look into it. Technically I'm good to the end of the year but I'll get the updated SMA now for a little savings.

I did do this as you suggest below, I also already tried this unloading jaws after my computer has fully started up and then relaunching the October or November 2021 release of jaws 2022, but still I did not get that automatic pop up window like I always was up until about 3 days ago, asking me if I want to yes or no update my jaws after my jaws had started up again. Since I am not sure at this time what this freedom scientific app will exactly do to my laptop if I select yes, I for now instead select no. In the jaws help menu, when you activate this app check for updates, I thought a jaws user gets a list of all the current updates of jaws that are available, giving the jaws user the option to select from this list the particular jaws update they want to download? You must select yes or JAWS can't tell you if you have an update. Then if you have an update you can choose to install it or not.

Here's a thought, and this is only a theory. Maybe after a certain amount of time has elapsed, say six months for example, JAWS figures that you don't want to update or upgrade and stops notifying you. Or it could be that after you have declined the update/upgrade a certain number of times, again it stops notifying you.

I myself used the /DisableExternalServices option when I installed JAWS so I can't use the check for updates as this option prevents JAWS from ever accessing the internet, instead I use a program called SUMo which stands for Software Update Monitor, it scans all my software for their current versions, then accesses an online database to determine if any of my software has an update available. I can then go and get those updates if I want them, or I can tell SUMo to ignore it if I don't want the update.

One of the reasons I did this is because I didn't like the idea that just checking for an update should need administrator access to my system. My opinion is that that should be left to the update/upgrade installer itself. And yes, using the /DisableExternalServices disables a number of JAWS features, but after almost ten years of using JAWS, I found that I didn't use any of those features anyway. Gene...
