Moderated How to shut off cortana??

Hi all. First off I hit the Windows C key and cortana came up and will shut off. It is Cortana this and Cortana that...what the heck. I went into settings and the meet me thing is off as was from another tip.
Now a second question. Example..I go to document and select a sentence and copy it to clipboard..good so far. Somewhere I heard a tip in which a person can add another sentence into the clipboard without it over-riding the first one put in. Any thoughts as to what that keystroke may be? I was trying some different keystrokes and that is where the Windows C keystroke came from in begging of this message. Sorry to be so long winded. Thanks, Morey Worthington -- Morey Worthington |

I am very confused as to whether you're asking about how to deal with Cortana or how to use the Clipboard History feature that was introduced late in Windows 10 and that carries over to Windows 11. Since you say you have Cortana silenced, I'll stick to the second. You can turn on Clipboard History in Settings, System, Clipboard Pane. You still use the standard cut/copy commands (CTRL + X, CTRL + C, respectively) to collect things on the clipboard, but you need to use WinKey + V if you want to see all of the things you have collected and to paste individual items. Hi Brian. You are absolutely correct, I confused myself.
First...I was trying to say that I had gone into the settings to see if the Meet me for Cortana was shut off and it was. But now it is still showing up all the time, meaning Cortana. I have tried turning off computer, restarting, but it is still there. Hope this clears that up. 1. Press the Windows key or Windows plus S for Search. 2. In the search box, type Startup. 3. Press ENTER. 4. When the search results come up, look for the search term, Startup Apps, and press ENTER on that. 5. TAB through your Startup apps, and make sure Cortana is off. Hi Bill and all. Bill, did as you recommended, and it said the Cortana button was off. I then restarted computer, desktop, and, Cortana, was not there now. As mentioned before by me, I had pressed the Windows (C) key and Cortana started and from there could not get it to shut off. Will I have to restart computer if this ever happens again, or is there a keys stroke such as pressing the Windows (C)

Hi, Morey. You'll need to restart the computer, or, go through a complicated process to shut it off. It's easier to restart the computer, but I'll put the complicated procedure below, just so you'll have it.

To Terminate Cortana 1. Open Windows Settings with Windows key plus I. 2. TAB to the list of Settings categories. 3. Right Arrow to Apps, and press ENTER. 4. the easiest way, for me, is to go to task manager, shift+ctrl+esc, arrow through the list of apps, and press alt+e on the one (cortana) that you want to close. be careful you only close the one you want, as your JAWS process and anything else you have open are in the list. when you press alt+e JAWS does not indicate that anything has happened, but when you arrow up and down through the list you have one fewer item.

usually, when there is a Windows command to close an app, I prefer to use that, so that I don't accidentally create trouble down the line. I will, though, use Task Manager, if, for some reason, a program won't close using the normal methods. Bill White billwhite92701@... -----Original Message-----

One thing you can do is load task manager with shift-control-escape and then end the task and that will close the program. Hope that helps.

This is jaws plus windows plus C.. Jaws will say, quote a pendant to clipboard.... Quote to check what you have on your clipboard but still remain in your application press jaws plus windows plus X.....
