Moderated How to prepare for windows 11 upgrade?
I've been resisting but the time has come to move from windows 10 to
windows 11 on my lenovo laptop. I read the articles from microsoft
support, but I'm wondering if there is anything I should be aware of
as a totally blind user? Can I complete this install without sighted
assistance? Will I need to use narrator to do that? Will I need to
reinstall Jaws? And finally, are there any especially good resources
to get me up and running with the new operating system?
Also if there is something I haven't asked about that I should be
aware of please let me know.
Major upgrades always make me nervous. Thanks in advance for any help.

I occasionally get prompted for the update, but am always in the middle of something and can't take the time to do it when prompted.

Just to answer some of your questions, you should be fine in updating from Windows 10 to 11 with the latest version and build of JAWS 2023 running during the update process.
You will want to download a recently released book from NLS BARD on Windows 11.
All familiar keyboard commands are still there so there is really nothing to worry about there.
Hope your updating goes smoothly.

It sits in the Windows Update pane, just waiting for you to download and install. The prompts are just to remind you that it's there. It doesn't go away, and you can choose to actually run the upgrade at your convenience.
I still strongly recommend doing a full system image backup of your existing Windows 10 instance before kicking off upgrades. I have only had one upgrade (and it was from 7 to 10) go pear-shaped, but it's really handy to have that system image to restore from in the unlikely event this were to happen.

I recoil from any definition of the relationship between artist and audience that is predicated on the audience claiming a sense of betrayal over who someone is or isn’t outside of the context in which they’re performing. What we know about an artist’s personal identity can be interesting and even illuminating; what we are entitled to know is … nothing, basically.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that the user interface for File Explorer has changed. Much of what you already know and use from Windows 10 still applies, but there are some differences.
Overall, on the whole Windows 11 is much like Windows 10, and the exceptions to that you will run into depends entirely on what you use and what you do routinely. The learning curve is steep and fast, not long, shallow, and painful.

Now is not the time to
update to Windows 11. As has been extensively discussed on
another list, there is a very serious bit locker bug in Windows
11 that could potentially render your computer completely
unusable, as it did for a member of that list, and so you should
postpone updating to Windows 11 as long as possible until this
bug is resolved in a future update. There is really no rush to
update to Windows 11 as long as Windows 10 is still fully
supported. Bit locker is apparently turned on by default in
both Windows 11 home and professional versions, and this poor
list member may have to trash a $1000 Dell laptop that is only
18 months old because bit locker completely messed it up and
neither an experienced technician nor the MS disability helpline
could figure out how to resolve the problem and restore it to
working condition. Of course, you could get lucky and update to
Windows 11 on your machine without experiencing any issues, but
why take the chance?

Brian:
I have two questions:
1. How do you get to the Windows update pane?;
And
2. What’s the easiest and most accessible way to do a full system image backup?
I always save my data files in the OneDrive cloud, and locally on my PC, but I understand why it’s always good to have extra backup protection, should the unthinkable happen as the result of a Windows upgrade.

As to the first, open Settings, Update & Security, then choose the Windows Update pane from the various panes there. It's the first one, and the one that should open by default.
At least through the end of this year, you can use this tutorial for making full system image backups: Using Macrium Reflect Free with a Screen Reader

This is not true, and does nothing but cause unneeded panic.
Bitlocker is, indeed, enabled on Windows 11 as shipped from the factory (or its equivalent drive encryption [not called Bitlocker] under Windows 11 Home), but if you do not have Bitlocker enabled under Windows 10 it absolutely, positively does not get enabled from an upgrade.
And I can speak from both direct experience doing multiple Windows 10 to 11 upgrades as well as from Microsoft's own documentation about Bitlocker and upgrades.
I have yet to experience a Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade fail. Taking a full system image before any major upgrade is best practice and gives you a way to quickly revert should something go really wrong.

Does this backup include incremental backups?

Does this backup include incremental backups?-
I cannot recall whether Macrium Free allows either incremental or differential backups, but I believe it does allow one of those two options. The paid tool allows full, incremental, and differential.
I never take anything except full, as I am most concerned about recovery time being fast. I kick off backups before retiring for the night and they're always done by morning (before, actually, but while I'm still sleeping).
