moderated how to get rid of Edge in start up?
Stan Holdeman
Dear List: I am running J 2021 and Google Chrome is my default browser.
Edge and a site called personal Microsoft comes up frequently at start up. Seems to slow up start up quite a bit.
How do I get rid of this intrusion?

Hi Stan. I used to have an O and M teacher named Stan. Anyway, go
to settings and startup. Tab to Microsoft Edge and press to turn
off.

Hi Stan,
Call up task manager with shift control + escape
and control tab to the startup tab and uncheck it.
Assuming you are using windows 10.
In 7, you need to run a utility called msconfig
with the run edit box which you get with windows + R.
HTH.

Not sure Dave,
If task manager does not come up, there's something
wrong.

Dave,
Can you left and right arrow after you open task
manager?
If so, you can arrow to start up and then tab to
the list of programs and find Edge and uncheck it with the space
bar.
HTH.

He needs to make it bigger, Clicking more details will do that. Once that is done, ctrl-tab and ctrl-shift tab will change tabs no matter what has the focus.

some time back, as I've used task manager in windows 10, and other than the startup tab, it seemed like the task manager in windows 7. Glenn

Glen:
Unfortunately not. If I press TAB, SHIFT+TAB,
CTRL+TAB, CTRL+SHIFT+TAB, LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DUWN arrows, nothing happens. I tried
restarting the computer, then, I opened Task
Manager and tried all the above keystrokes, again, nothing happened. I even went
as far as to restore the computer to a previous date and time and tried using
Task Manager again but, there was no improvement. I would really not like to
have to reinstall Windows 10, just to get Tast Manager to behave as it
should.

Task Manager starts as it should but, when I use
the keystrokes to move around the program, they do not work.

in task manager Did you press on the more details button? if you our just trying to get to the start up tab another way is to use msconfig.EXE. Just press the windows key type MSCONFIG. EXC then hit enter and go to the start up tab and that will have a link that will take you directly to the start up tab of task manager.

I don't have any idea what's coming up, but if you have the opportunity to get sighted assistance or use a service like Be My Eyes to have a look at what's going on if the screen reader is not making it easy to figure out I'd suggest going that route. I have never seen Edge "starting automatically" such that it presents a window and a webpage, whether at system startup or otherwise. I would be very curious to know what's actually occurring here. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time. ~ André Gide

If you go to task manager and to the start up tab you can disable such things as Microsoft edge from starting.

Most things in the startup don't need to be there, like Office for example.

Many programs put something into the startup to make them open faster when initially opened. All you really need in startup are any anti virus/malware programs and any access technology. Anything else slows bootup and is taking some resources. Glenn

As I explained to Glen, using the normal navigation
keys do not work, however, as you suggested in your previous post, I was able to
fully access the Task Manager program through the MsConfig
program.
