Moderated how to access taskbar options with jaws
Gery Gaubert
I am trying to uninstall some programs from muy pc. When in the add/remove programs I click on the unwanted program and instead of remove or uninstall there is an overflow button. I read on google to right click on an empty space on the taskbar to be able to go in and remove the program. How can I even get to the taskbar much less find a blank space. Or is there a way in jaws to get to these options and be able to get that overflow button removed? |

Use Control Panel, Programs and Features for uninstalling. It makes life so much easier.
And you cannot get rid of the overflow area for the system tray if you have any items that do not display constantly in your system tray, and most of us have a number of things we don't want to deal with unless we hit the Overflow Chevron to deliberately gain access to them. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 22621; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit; Android 12 (MIUI 13) It’s not lack of contact with the world off campus that leads to the liberal views common in academia — it’s being trained to think critically and practicing this craft daily as we look at the world around us that makes us the libs conservatives so dislike. ~ Eliot A. Gery,
Here’s how I get to add/remove. In the windows search field, I start typing “programs,” without the quotes. Before I’ve finished, add/remove programs shows up as the top result. Clicking on that line takes you directly to the control panel’s add/remove system. Here, you shouldn’t encounter the problems you describe.

Adrian,
What version and build of Windows are you using? Under WIndows 11 Version 22H2, if I type "programs" it does show, in the search results, "Add or remove programs - Control Panel," but if that's selected it takes me into Windows 11 Settings, Apps Pane, Installed Apps which is clearly going to eventually replace the Programs and Features option in Control Panel. The latter is still available, however, just not via Windows Search. When I type the same thing under Windows 10 Version 22H2, the search results show, "Add or remove programs - System Settings," and I land in Settings, Apps, Apps & Features pane. This Pane does contain a link for the classic Control Panel Programs and features functionality, but I don't end up there directly. I can't find any way to get there directly unless I open Control Panel and use Programs and Features from it under the latest versions of either Windows 10 or 11. ~ Eliot A. Here’s a trick of sorts for you guys. To go directly to control panel, programmes and features, open the run dialog box from anywhere and type: “appwiz.cpl”

JM,
As I've often said, Windows gives many different proverbial roads to Rome. Directly invoking the correct control panel (which is what a CPL stands for) was just a bit too "geeky" for me to suggest, but it's 100% another way to reach the same end. ~ Eliot A. Haha..I really don’t know how geeky it is, but it’s fast as can be and efficient.

You can type, control, or, control panel, then
press enter into the Run dialog in both Win11 22H2 and 21H2 and access the
control panel as well.

Hi.
If you press enter on that overflow button, a menu will pop up allowing you to uninstall or modify the proglam in question. Hope this helps.
Justin.
