Moderated Getting rid of Annoying numbers!
Ann Byrne
Word 2019; windows 10; JAWS 2023 latest.
Arrowing line by line through documents, JAWS speaks numbers that must mean something to someone. following the text, it might say, "10 of 20"; and following the next line, "11 of 20", and so on. Then randomly it will reset to "3 of 255". In earlier versions of JAWS I turned off "UIA" something and those numbers went away. But UIA is no longer in quick settings. I have turned off "outline indication", and the numbers are still there. Any suggestions for getting rid of the stinkers? thx, |

This problem sounded like something I experienced in the past, so I went Googling, and I think I found the answer. Here's the relevant text followed by the URL: Remove line numbers You can remove line numbers from the entire document, from a section, or from a paragraph. 1. Click in the document, or click in the section or paragraph from which you want to remove line numbers. If you want to remove line numbers from multiple sections, select the sections. 2. On the Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Line Numbers. 3. Do one of the following: ■ To remove line numbers from the entire document or section, click None. ■ To remove line numbers from a single paragraph, click Suppress for Current Paragraph. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-or-remove-line-numbers-b67cd35e-422c-42eb-adc9-256ca9802e22#remove -- My novel Caroline is now available in paperback, Kindle and audiobook versions and, for qualified readers in the US, at the National Library Service/BARD. When in the document, press ALT+Q, type "line numbers" without the quotes and press down arrow until you get to Show Line Numbers Submenu. Open the Submenu and select Off. Cordially, Curtis Chong -----Original Message-----

Line numbers are off. Word seems to be counting paragraphs.

Bit of a long shot, but try the following. Go into Settings Center with JAWS key+6. Locate the tree view, then arrow down to and expand Speech verbosity. Take note of which verbosity level JAWS is set to, then arrow down to and expand Configure verbosity levels. Press space on the level that JAWS is set to (enter will close you out of Settings Center), and make sure the first check box "announce position and count when in lists" is unchecked. If it isn't, uncheck it, and ok/apply your way out of the Settings Center dialog box. Cheers, Ed -----Original Message-----
