moderated Forwarding or Replying in Outlook

Hi Everyone,

Situation.  I get an interesting email which I can read just fine.  I want to forward it or reply to it.  I follow the usual steps to do this.  When I review my message, the original text is in some sort of table and all I can read is something which says start or end of table.  I am guessing that a sighted person will be able to read this, but I doubt a person using access technology will be able to do so.  How do I ensure that the original email message is readable by the recipient?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have Office 365 and I am using Outlook and Jaws 2022.

Barbara,

I think readability will depend on how the recipient’s email is set up. Apparently, you’re set up with tables to be interpreted and read by JAWS in a form that you can manage. Your visually impaired recipients probably are, too.

I’ve also wondered about this change in format when I forward such messages, but I’ve yet to get complaints that my screenreader-using friends can’t read them.

Hi, Barbara and adrian. When you look at the email you are forwarding, before you send it, it appears to be in a table with cells, but, if you CC or BCC yourself, and look at the copy you receive back, it appears normal. I don't know why there is this discrepancy between the forwarded letter that appears below your signature and the copy you receive as a carbon copy or blind carbon copy, but it all works out for the recipient of the message.

Hello Barbara:

This is something which appears to be a fairly frequent occurrence, at least for those of us who use JAWS.

If in doubt, forward to yourself first and test the results before forwarding something to everybody else. I have had to adopt this practice for myself because of this frustrating but unfortunately very real problem.

Cordially,

Curtis Chong
