Moderated Forcing a default browser
Rod & Ele Macdonald
I am using Windows 11 and Jaws 2023, both latest versions. I "thought" I had Chrome set as my default browser, though I do not know how to verify this.
There are some favorite websites I visit via simply having the appropriate URL on my desktop - one click and go. When I do this I have encountered a very annoying situation: I am on a website reading text on my braille display - I am using braille-only - when suddenly the display jumps to a display of the website name, the word "Personal", and the word "Edge". Arrow keys will not work, but pressing Tab will bring me back to the website content. Apparently Edge has somehow gotten ahold of things. Howcome and whyfore I do not know. I do not even know how to verify what browser is in control, and I am reluctant to experiment when all I wanted to do was read text. Is there a way to FORCE use of my default browser, or at least to stop this mischief? Yes, I can first open Chrome, which on my setup means opening Gmail and using search from there. But the whole point of putting the URL on the desktop was to simplify things, and isn't a default a default? Rod |

See my message in the topic, Default browser, for how to set your default browser under Windows 11.

Thank you, but given the volume of posts on the various lists I subscribe to, I do not read them all, nor do I keep them just-in-case. I don't have access to your prior post, but I do apologize if the topic was previously covered. However, I "assume" my browser was already set with Chrome as default - Best Buy told me they had set it as such. My issue was making it behave as default. Further, I would like to know why my text-reading was suddenly interrupted. Thank you. Rod ----- Original Message -----

Rod,
If a direct link to information is not sufficient for you to check it, that is really not my problem. I gave you a way, the direct way, to check out your situation. Use it or don't. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 22621; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit; Android 12 (MIUI 13) It’s not lack of contact with the world off campus that leads to the liberal views common in academia — it’s being trained to think critically and practicing this craft daily as we look at the world around us that makes us the libs conservatives so dislike. ~ Eliot A. OK, thank you. FYI: I use a HIMS U2 notetaker to access my emails, and it cannot do more than that. I do have Outlook onmy desktop, and yes, I can access links there; But ... never mind, as you say that isn't your problem. Rod ----- Original Message -----
