Moderated follow-up pdf questions

Hi all,

Microsoft Edge is my default web browser but I also have Adoby installed on my laptop so I’m wondering when I open a pdf and jaws starts reading it is it reading it in Edge or Adoby? Just curious that’s all; I don’t suppose there’s any way to get jaws to read a pdf that’s an image (I assume it’s been scanned)? Anyway, just curious that’s all. Using latest versions of all programs.

Hi,

You can access the title bar to determine what program, Edge or Adobe, has grabbed your pdf.

You can assign a default program for your pdf’s.  Edge often indicates if the pdf has loaded into the browser.

OCR with JAWS to get the text from any simage scans of pdf files.

Hi Dan,

OCR of PDF files are only available in Adobe Acrobat. I’m using Jaws 19 though and would love to know if the OCR scan of PDF files is available in Edge and/or Chrome as well in latter Jaws versions.

Cheers

Zel

No, jaws ocr only works with acrobat. However, you can hit ctrl  + p to print and choose save as pdf from choose printer combo box. Then load pdf with acrobat/ jaws ocr.

The real solution to my dilemma is to get Freedom Scientific to make OCR scanning of PDF documents in Chrome, Edge and possibly other PDF readers.
