moderated Firefox Is Not Responding

This is rather strange, since I can run it fine on this machine with Windows XP, same version (52.6.0), but I can't seem to run it on my Windows 7 machine since February 14 of this year. Before then, it was working fine. When I reinstall it, it automatically tries updating to Firefox 60, and I don't understand why, because I've turned off updates to Firefox. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

netbat66

did you turn off the internet connection as soon as you re installed it?
if you don't it will upgrade you as soon as you open it.
you have to leeve your internet connection off until you turn off automatic updates and i also turn off the background services i think its called. this is in the same advanced settings area.

Netbat, doesn't the Internet have to be disconnected before starting the installation and disabling the update setting?

i don't think so. i think the installer has to go on the net to download the actual firefox program before it it installes it.
then as soon as it has finished disconnect from the net so it can't upgrade. then go to the advanced settings and turn off the check for updates and the option for the background services.option.

I wonder if there's a way to change those options while the Internet
connection is off. If so, how would I do this?

by unplugging the modem if you don't have it on a power strip.
a few modems have a button you can press to disconnect from the net too.
but you have to do this right after firefox has been installed.

Yeah,
Windows 7 here, mine reset itself and made me go into FireFox's safe mode to get it back, and I had a hell of a time getting the settings like I had them with my home page.  Thankfully my choice of home page has a button to set it as the default home page, because FF would not do it any more.
It kept wanting me to use the choice of search engines it offered me.

no, it stopped working with window eyes.
the last version that will work with window eyes is version 52.7
and it is also the last version that will work with webvisum captcha solver.

I'm using version 68.6.0 (32-bit) of the Firefox Extended Support Release which came out when JAWS was first having issues with the initial Firefox Quantum release. I'm still running Windows 7 but this version of Firefox works well with Fusion 2020.

Yes, I used to get that, too. I had to go into Programs\Mozilla Firefox, and remove the file called updater.exe to get it to stop updating.

it can not update without a internet connection.
but if you wait even a minute after it has been installed it will update. you have to be fast. grin
then you have to open the internet options menu and find advanced somewhere and change it to never check for updates. i also turn off use background services. i don't know if the updateing uses this. i have closed firefox and reloaded it and went back to make sure it is still set to never update.
someone else, maybe on this list found the updater program in the program files x86\mazilla folder and renamed this file so firefox can't find it to do an update.

one thing with firefox. if you open the bookmark menu with control i without turning off the vertual cursor it will hang for over a minute before speech will come back.
it does this with both jaws and window eyes. it does not with n v d a.

one thing with firefox. if you open the bookmark menu with control i without
turning off the vertual cursor it will hang for over a minute before speech
will come back.
it does this with both jaws and window eyes. it does not with n v d a.

I actually go through an ethernet connection which has its main point at the
headquarters of the apartment complex where I live. In fact, I unplugged the
cable I have from the ethernet connection on the back of my computer, and I
still get the same "Firefox is not responding", and it just hangs there with
my whole machine frozen until I exit Firefox. What's up with that, I wonder?

by unplugging the modem if you don't have it on a power strip.
a few modems have a button you can press to disconnect from the net too.
but you have to do this right after firefox has been installed.

I wonder if there's a way to change those options while the Internet
connection is off. If so, how would I do this?

did you turn off the internet connection as soon as you re installed it?
if you don't it will upgrade you as soon as you open it.
you have to leeve your internet connection off until you turn off automatic
updates and i also turn off the background services i think its called. this
is in the same advanced settings area.

This is rather strange, since I can run it fine on this machine with Windows
XP, same version (52.6.0), but I can't seem to run it on my Windows 7 machine
since February 14 of this year. Before then, it was working fine. When I
reinstall it, it automatically tries updating to Firefox 60, and I don't
understand why, because I've turned off updates to Firefox. Has anyone else
had this happen to them?

there is 3 different ways to get to the book mark list. each method works differently.
there is control shift b, this one closes the list as soon as you press escape. alt b. this one does not show all the bookmark links.
control i opens the entire list of links and you have the option to search the entire list. it stays opened until you close it again with control i.
but as i said both jaws and window eyes will hang when you open the bookmark list unless you turn off the virtual cursor first. or browse mode for window eyes.
also the virtual cursor will turn back on every time you leave the bookmark list and will hang again when you press f6 to put focus back on the list.

I thought the shortcut to open the bookmarks menu was Alt+B. What does
Control+I do?

Another feature about FF and Chrome is that you can just do control + L and type in part of the web page and if you've been there, it takes you there.
I probably type in more than I need to, but daily I check the Nebraska lottery page, and that site is:
http://www.nelottery.com/
but if I do ctrl + L and type in only the letters nelott it takes me there.
