Moderated doing a find within an email
Kevin Meyers
Hi, I will be in an email and then move to a different window. I then move back to the email and now the cursor is back to the top of the email. Is it possible to do a find within an email?I cannot use control f or control , shift f. Control F creates a new email. I thought I would do control shift f just to see if that works. I know it is used to search outside emails. Freedom Scientific told me there is no find function within an email. They did tell me to put a placemarker by pressing control, windows and the letter k. Okay that added the placemarker. He was very short with me and made it sounded like I asked to many questions. I searched the help for how to do a find of the placemarker and couldn’t find anything. First is there a way to do a find within an email? Secondly, how do I find a placemarker in an email? Thanks, Kevin

You do not mention what version of JAWS you are using or what email client or webmail you are using. But I have no idea who told you that you cannot do a find in email messages, because you can.
If CTRL + F is creating a new email message, it's because someone has hosed up the keyboard shortcuts. There is not an email client or webmail client that uses CTRL + F to create a new message in its out of the box state. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 22621; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit; Android 12 (MIUI 13) It’s not lack of contact with the world off campus that leads to the liberal views common in academia — it’s being trained to think critically and practicing this craft daily as we look at the world around us that makes us the libs conservatives so dislike. ~ Eliot A. Hi Kevin,
As two other listers have replied, you can search within an email using either F4 or insert-control-f. Control-f creates a new message in the sense that it sets up a message that you forward to others. As you say, shift-control-f searches an email folder. I’m assuming here that you use Outlook. It’s always best to specify the program you’re using when posting a query.

Hi, Brian. I don't think Kevin was saying that CONTROL plus F created a new message. In the Outlook mail client, CONTROL plus F begins a forwarded message. This, I believe, was what Kevin was running into. I told Kevin about the JAWS Find command within a message. It is JAWS key plus CONTROL plus F.

Kevin, If you are dealing with a large amount of text in a email body, from the top of the message, press Control Shift down arrow then copy to the clip board and paste it into a Word document or Notepad. Then, when you Alt Tab away and back, you will be where you left off. HTH Marty On 2/10/2023 10:52 AM, Kevin Meyers

In Outlook, Ctrl+F doesn’t start a new message but does open up the options to forward a message which may be misconstrued as a new message!
