Hi: I'm having a problem with my function keys on my laptop, so insert+f12
doesn't say date and time. Is there any other way for jaws to give me this
information?
Thank you.

No worries! The only dumb question is the one not asked. To close Word
ALT-f followed by x or up arrowing 1 time to exit.

Good morning: I have a problem with my f4 key on my laptop keyboard. I know
this should be obvious but how can I completely close word other than with
alt+f4?
Thanks.

John,
I wonder if your function keys got turned to the other functions, like
volume and such.
Try using the special FN key, usually left of the space bar, along with F12.
Otherwise, you can do insert + B for the task bar and arrow to the time if
you have it set to display the time there.
HTH.

As far as I know, it is changed in the BIOS, so if it got turned on without
going into the BIOS, there is probably a button to toggle it.
You may need to look that up on your particular laptop model.

Depending on your computer model, you should be able to use function key plus escape to toggle your function keys back to their primary functions. Then jaws key plus F 12 should start working again without having to do acrobats trying to press jobs key plus F 12+ function. LOL.

Hello,
Sometimes the special function keys setting can be changed in
control pannel under keyboard in the function keys category and other
times this setting would need to be changed in BIOS which is
inaccessible to screen readers.
I would begin in the control panel under keyboard link and see if
there is any tab when pressing control tab that states function keys
tab.
You could also try pressing the fn key to the left of the space bar
with escape to disable it temporarily while you press insert f12 for
example to check time.

Hi.

I have an Asus Zen Book laptop, and, like many others, the function keys were set so FN had to be pressed with them to do things like JAWS control. To fix this, I learned that FN+ESC would solve the problem. It fixed it for me, and if I ever want things back the way they were, I just press that key combination again.

Just sharing.

Try using the special FN key, usually left of the space bar, along with F12.
Otherwise, you can do insert + B for the task bar and arrow to the
time if you have it set to display the time there.

Hi: I'm having a problem with my function keys on my laptop, so
insert+f12 doesn't say date and time. Is there any other way for jaws
to give me this information?
Thank you.

No worries! The only dumb question is the one not asked. To close
Word ALT-f followed by x or up arrowing 1 time to exit.

know this should be obvious but how can I completely close word other
than with
alt+f4?
Thanks.

You aren't tapping the F12 quick enough.
Don't let go of the insert key while pressing the F12 twice.

Depending on your computer model, you should be able to use function key
plus escape to toggle your function keys back to their primary functions.
Then jaws key plus F 12 should start working again without having to do
acrobats trying to press jobs key plus F 12+ function. LOL.

Generally one has to "get the hang of the speed" of how quickly that F12 has to be hit.

Once that INSERT is held down, you have to play with "how fast can you go" with the double F12 press.  Eventually you find the sweet spot, speed-wise.
