moderated copying text from one word doc to another and losing headings
mike mcglashon
Hi guys:
The situation is, I have two word windows open, One has a copy of my whole textbook with headings in it for easy navigation; The second window is simply a blank word doc that I will copy a chapter from my book on the first window into. I notice however, after copy and paste, In the blank word window, the headings disappeared following the paste into that window? I only want to copy some chapters into the blank word doc because I only want jaws to continuously read up to the end of that chapter; If I simply read from within the original textbook window, Jaws will read past the end of the chapter I wish to stop at.
I hope this doesn’t confuse you.
Please advise as you like.

Mike, I just tried working with a file I have headings in. I opened the file, set a temporary placemarker at one heading, then went a few pages down and used the layered command M to mark my place and copied the text. Interestingly, If I go to the new document and hit Control V to paste it, my headings stuck. If, instead, I use the context men and paste with “keep source formatting” the headings are stripped. I really thought the latter approach would be better and I’m quite surprised it strips the headings.
Are you pasting the content with a Control V?

Yes I did use control-v first, When that didn’t work, I tried to use the shift-f10 and arrow down to paste options, Then tried each of the buttons within that menu; None kept the headings there, They all stripped headings away.

Try looking in you Word settings, Alt + T,
then press the letter, O, and I don't know which category will have this, maybe
save or advanced, but try finding something along the lies of retain formatting
when copying / pasting.
Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi, Mike. Yes, what Mike says is correct. Open Word. Open Options with ALT plus F, followed by T. Navigate to Advanced, by arrowing down, do not press ENTER. This will throw you out of settings, back to your document. TAB to a setting which says something like,
Pasting between documents: Combo box‑
This is what you want. TAB to OK, and press ENTER.

Under paste special, control-alt-v, one of the options is "HTML format." So, control-alt-v, arrow up or down to HTML format, then enter. I don't know from experience if this would work in this particular case, but on the face of it, it ought to.
