I do hope that one day FS will open up the subscription and the SMA purchase
to the world, not limiting it to the U.S only. It is just like how we can
subscribe Office 365 without going through a local computer deeler.

years instead of 1 at the time of renewal.
As I'm set through the 2024 upgrade, it shows me no prices when looking at

The JAWS SMA license has been $150 for several years, but during convention time they have it for $120. Seems there is a lot of confusion here on this list about the licenses and prices.

Gene makes a good point. Several of us including Loy, yours truly and
others came to JAWS with the demise of Window-Eyes.
We were given JAWS at no cost as former GW Micro Window-Eyes owners.
We became elligible for the SMA program as were became fully JAWS owners.
This should explain some of the different prices discussed in this thread.
If I recall correctly, we were given the version of JAWS current at that
time plus 2 free SMA's.
Very generous, that's for sure!
And when renewal time came, I started buying the 2 SMA option.

I just checked the SMA cost for my home edition of Jaws and after
entering my serial number it said I could purchase a SMA for $150.00. I
still have one sma left so another sma purchase would get me to 2025.

Never mind that, they finally made it easy to find where to buy SMAs on their site, it was always hard to find in the past, so I always ended up calling them.
Anyway, they won't quote me a price because I am licensed through JAWS 2024. I guess I'll have to wait until next year to see how much they are going to charge me.

If you can afford the yearly renewal cost, and are going to upgrade your
windows regularly, it probably makes sense to get the yearly subscription.
On the other hand, if you aren't going past windows 7 or 8, Jaws 2020 is
fine.
And if you stay with windows 10 past newer windows updates, the yearly Jaws
updates probably won't affect your version of windows, so it may be better
to just have an SMA, which won't stop working after a year.
And if you may not be able to afford the yearly subscription next year, then
the SMA may be best, for the same reason.

Unfortunately no, as I understand it, SMAs are only available if you pay the $950 for a JAWS perpetual license. Freedom Scientific introduced the annual license model because many visually impaired people simply cannot afford the cost of a perpetual license.
