Hi, My computer, which I obtained from Computers for the blind, has a very weird issue, where as soon as I open outlook, Jaws2021 (latest build) quits talking, until I Alt+tab away from the window, and come back. I tried a reinstall of jaws, to no avail. I was working in edge earlier, and that was enough to get my fans going a very high speed. This happens more often than it should.
I’m going to contact them tomorrow, to get permission from Computers for the blind, and if they say, “yes,” I’ll do a complete reinstall of windows. The computer comes with programs I’ve never even used, & jaws is still being finicky even after a clean install of it. Please advise on next steps, if you think a reimage is to drastic.

What are the specs of the computer? My impression is that they use lower end processors and RAM, so it could be it is being overloaded. I’d remove anything you are not using, especially anything that loads on start-up. If it is the issue of the processor and RAM, reinstalling Windows won’t help.

To find out the RAM, tap the Windows key. Type system in the edit box. Hit enter and you should be on system Info. Tab once or twice to a list of 14 items. Arrow down to about. Make sure it says selected. Then tab until you hear Device specifications Copy Button‑ Press space to copy that info and then paste it somewhere.
That ounds like a great processor, but if you have 8 GB of RAM or less, that may be the problem. To run both Windows 10 and Jaws, you should have 12 to 16 GB of RAM. But, it could be just all the other garbage tha tis loading down your system on start up. If computers for the Blind cannot help, then I would call Microsoft Accessibility and get them to help you sort out what you can disable from loading at startup.

From: JM Casey Type, msinfo32, into the Run dialogue, press enter and do the following: When you run msinfo32, tab once from the initial "system summary" level of the tree view. There should be a whole list of specs there, which JAWS should automatically read as you arrow up and down. You can even move by first letter navigation. There you will see "installed physical memory", "available memory", "virtual memory", etc. There is indeed a "memory" section under
"hardware resources" too, but that doesn't list your available ram; instead it
shows data about your installed

Of all the Microsoft apps, Outlook has always given me trouble. You can try to repair your office suite. Go to program and features(Press Windows + R keys simultaneously to launch the Run box. Type appwiz. cpl and click OK to open Programs and Features. Find your Microsoft app in the list and hit Shift F10 or application key Arrow down to change and hit enter. The repair dialog box will appear. Do the online repair, it is longer, but more thorough. HTH

I’m having similar issues with Jaws 2021 and 365. It either stops talking completely and won’t start again so I have to do a hard reboot or it gets really slow when I’m writing a message and runs words together. I guess that’s not a Jaws issue though with the running together of words. That implies the whole system is slowing down but it’s only started with 365 and Jaws 2021 which I got around the same time. The braille also disappears off my display. I’ll go back to 20 and see if that runs properly. Cheers Paula.

OK, then something with Jaws and the new 365 update are not getting along, but it still could be something extra loading that is bogging down your system. Do you have the January JAWS update? Best of luck,

Hi, I don’t know if this is helpful, but it might be that focused inbox is turned on. We just migrated to Office 365 at work, and this is what happened for me when I first opened Outlook. JAWS wouldn’t say anything. The following link tells you how to turn it off. https://synivate.com/focused-inbox-for-microsoft-outlook-365-how-to-turn-it-off/
Once I turned it off, everything was fine. Hope this helps,

I’m having similar issues with Jaws 2021 and 365. It either stops talking completely and won’t start again so I have to do a hard reboot or it gets really slow when I’m writing a message and runs words together. I guess that’s not a Jaws issue though with the running together of words. That implies the whole system is slowing down but it’s only started with 365 and Jaws 2021 which I got around the same time.
