Moderated Anyone have experience with Success Factor and JAWS?

Cynthia Bruce

Hi All,

My university has started using Success Factor as the learning management platform for faculty and staff mandatory learning modules. I am using Windows 10 and JAWS 2022, and so far have found it very inaccessible. Has anyone else encountered this platform, and if so, have you found it accessible at all?

Many thanks,

Cynthia

We have it at my university but I'm not sure if I've used it.

I use it at work. What are you having trouble with? Or is it just overall accessibility that is the issue. It's clunky, but generally manageable. I wouldn't shout from the rooftop that it's accessible, but with frustration I can typically do what I need to do.

Every step of trying to access a course has been really difficult. When I search available courses, I can’t access any results. Sighted people keep telling me the results pop up in different boxes, but there seems to be no way for me to get to them. The same thing happens when somebody gets me into the course and I try to find the modules. It’s just that nothing seems to be accessible to Jaws.

Sorry, one more thing, they keep describing the boxes as tiles which I can’t seem to get to. When they have had access to my laptop and watch what I’m doing, they will tell me at a certain point that my cursor is on it but my cursor reads nothing that they are saying is in the tile. So, I don’t know if it’s a set up issue in terms of how they have constructed things or what the problem is.

Cynthia,

Last year, as an alumnus of my college, I encountered a problem with its website. In that case, the source was a third party. The college promptly ended their contract with the vendor and notified other colleges that used them of the problem. I wonder if you’re in a position to demand accessibility from your college’s website. I’m well aware it’s easier for me as an alum, since I have little to lose by getting into a fight over accessibility.

Hi, we use SuccessFactors at work and accessibility has improved greatly especially I think with the new mandatory home page implemented this year. With regard eLearning, much does depend on the eLearning course developer and sometimes courses are very poorly designed.
If you are having problems in the the LMS module home screen where you are searching for courses or navigating prior to starting the course, you should ask your HR team to ask IT to raise that in the specific SuccessFactors accessibility forum. This is in the SAP SuccessFactors community and they should be able to find it. Happy to help if you want to reach out privately if I can.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for this; it is really helpful. I will pass this along to the team and be in touch with you if they don’t make any progress.
