Moderated Amazon Smile

Hi All,
I've been trying to use Amazon Smile, so I can get a percentage of my
purchases donated to my local Ham club, but the folks in the club say to
click on the smile on the check out page, but I search for the word smile,
but can never find it.
Has anyone here ever been able to do this with Jaws?
Thanks.

Glenn

"Smile" will be what sighted people see. The control may have a different label as far as a screenreader is concerned. Have you tried searching for "donate" or "donation"? How about looking at all the buttons on that page in case one seems a likely candidate?

I've gone through all the controls, I'll try searching for donate, but
having gone through the page and don't recall that, it doesn't sound
promising.
Thanks.

The "Smile" is a graphic, a picture of a smile. As was said, you need to look for text that says something similar.

smile.amazon.com is the direct URL to Amazon Smile, and you need to "cross register" (for lack of a better way of putting it) your existing Amazon account the first time you use it.

I've been using https://smile.amazon.com/ for years now, and the number of charities they have in their list is astounding.  Small local charities here in the Shenandoah Valley are ones that can be donated to, and I'm sure that's true for virtually any other place's local charities.

The smile version of Amazon is exactly parallel to regular Amazon and can be used if you're an Amazon Prime member.  In fact, if you search on regular amazon.com you'll often be prompted as to whether you want to go to the same page in Amazon Smile so if you purchase you will be making that tiny donation.  But every little bit helps.

Well my wife has the prime account, and I get free prime shipping, since I live in the same home, but I have never gotten that prompt.
But I've searched for it on Amazon without finding it.
Is it /smile on the URL or something?

Please read the messages you're responding to.  I gave the direct URL, twice, once without the https:// prefix so it was easier to read and once such that it could be directly activated.  There's nothing more I could mor should be expected to do.

I got it!
If someone wants a cause to donate to, you can always use my Ham club.
Elkhorn Valley Amateur Radio Club
I found it on the Smile page.
Thanks for the link.

Glenn

I use Smile all the time.

I open my browser that I use for Amazon shopping -- Chrome.

Then, in the edit box I type

smile.amazon.com

and I have it for shopping, checking the shooping cart, proceed to
check-out from there.
You have to have designated which charity/non-profit/club you wish as your
default donation receiver. My wife and I use our local Rescue Mission as
the receiver of the 0.5% share that gets donated.
That works out to 50 cents per $100 spent; so your ham club isn't likely
to be rolling in dough for any individual shopper; but it can add up.
Amazon doles out the money quarterly, if I recall correctly.

Where you designate the charity, I'm not certain as ours has been set up
for years without change.
Hopefully, someone can address that question as, I believe, each donation
receiver applies for a code.

K0LNY

About a year ago, I spent about 1,800 dollars on Amazon for a backup
generator, but I couldn't find smile anywhere any way on the page, and it
had never been offered on my pages, so that was a big loss to the club, that
has always bugged me.

Another point to be remembered is that the key to getting the donation
credited is to make certain that when you are in check-out, you are in
Smile.
Doing as Brian and I suggested will always give you the word smile to be
found if you use Jaws' search for text function.
Items needn't be placed while in Smile; only when you proceed to check-out
matters.

And any non-profit ought to take advantage of the program.

Mike Pietruk

My guess is that one needs to be a prime member to avail themselves of the
Smile program.
Multiple people may use a prime account so you and your wife should be
using the same account.
And our adult son also uses the account having stuff shipped to his home
directly.

When getting into Smile as Brian and I have suggested, using the search
function of JAWS will find the word smile.
And when you place the order, the confirmation page will do also and
indicating which charity is your benefactor.

Mike Pietruk

Glenn

give the ham club treasurer a $10 bill and tell him to keep the extra $1
in the treasury <smile>!!
That shows how little actually ends up in the hands of the recipients.

K0LNY

Believe me, I use the Jaws search multiple times daily, and I even use it in
places other than web pages.
For over a year, I tried to find smile on amazon.com, and never found it.
Although I get free shipping, because I have the same address as my wife,
Amazon.com has never availed Smile to me, and it has never been on a page.
It wasn't until Brian gave the link, was I able to get it associated with my
account.
