As an aside, you may want to consider the Stop AutoPlay Next for YouTube add-on/extension. It does exactly what it says.
I never want YouTube to keep advancing from the video I'm actually interested in, and am playing, to the next and next and next random one it chooses for me after the one that interested me is done.

As of this date, my preferred one (and it's more than just an ad-blocker) is uBlock Origin (Chrome/Chromium Version) or uBlock Origin (Firefox - Author is Raymond Hill).
AdBlock Plus is my second choice, and is still very good.

It will. About 98% of the time. Sometiems they “sneak through”.
And if you use chrome, in january, I don’t think this will work anymore, and I suspect most if not all Chromium browsers will follow suit out of the necessity to keep extension compatibility in tact.
But if you use firefox, they should keep working for the foreseeable future.
