Moderated Activating control with the touch cursor
Ann Byrne
Using the touch cursor to navigate a screen, how do I activate the button that says 'connect'? I have tried enter, spacebar (FS support said spacebar twice), left mouse click, but nothing. sometimes instead of the touch cursor the applications key works, but only rarely. also rarely the JAWS scan cursor sees the controls and will click. Usually the PC cursor and the scan cursor just say "blank"
If I keep stomping around long enough the connection happens, but it takes far longer than it should. Thanks for ideas. |

Try using the slash key on the numeric keypad with num lock turned off, in JAWS this simulates clicking the left mouse button.

It may require the use of a real physical mouse, not a simulated one. I have run across some apps that behave that way.

This is both a longshot and illogical, but have you tried invoking the JAWS cursor at that point? As you'll realize, I'm thinking that if the control is detected by the JAWS cursor, you might try pressing insert (JAWS key) with the PC key.

I can't rout the PC cursor to the touch cursor. and usually the JAWS cursor doesn't see the button. Why it sometimes sees it and sometimes doesn't is a mystery.

To be clear, I can't route the PC to the touch cursor either. You'd have to bring up the JAWS cursor first, and only then route to the JAWS cursor. Perhaps you did that. Either way, I'm almost certainly wasting your time!

For me, the touch cursor sometimes comes tantalizingly close to solving a problem, but I'm not sure it has actually done so even once. -----Original Message-----

I'm finding more and more places that only work with the touch cursor. I have managed to get some sites to change their pages for keyboard use.

I usually have to enable touch cursor, arrow around for the control. Frequently, I have to move off the control before activating it and then get out of touch mode The biggest problem is sites that mostly work from the keyboard and only have a single control that doesn't. Takes a bit before thinking to try touch cursor. Tony . -----Original Message-----

Well, the enter key should send the "defaultAction" to the item in the touch cursor. This should cause a standard click action on buttons and links. Sometimes however, the developer codes the buttons or links to respond to the mouse down, hover, or mouse up actions. I am not sure if the JAWS mouse functions will work on the touch cursor location or the jaws cursor location.
What I expect might be happening though is that the activate button you are trying to press is not actually on screen. I have seen some developers code a sign out button where it shows up to the VPC cursor and the touch cursor but is actually "off screen" They expect the user to hover the mouse over a menu that expands and then slide the mouse down until it is over the sign out button. You could script this type of action, but is fairly difficult to do on demand. Essentially doing a JawsFind on the triggering element and then moving the JAWS cursor to what you found. And then moving down until you find the item in the popup menu. My timesheets at Peraton required me to do this type of maneuver |

Try the left click button, or the slash on the number pad if you see what I mean. All the best Steve -----Original Message-----
