Moderated accessible reading online

Where and how do I find accessible books on line, such as books like the black spiritual movement, and nonfiction selections such as that?

I've been unable to make internet archive work, and script does not seem to work very well, anymore.

The PDF versions of books don't seem to work anymore.

Thanks,

Justin

Hmm.

Try libgen.org maybe.

What about Audible or Bookshare.org?  Both have lots of titles and have very accessible online readers.

Thanks,

Justin,

Bookshare.org has the advantage that the books are available in text formats. The selection is vast, although I’ve been unable to find titles even there. You need to demonstrate that you’re eligible for the service, but your BARD subscription should provide you with what they need.

Hi Adrian,
Any idea on how to update my status with BookShare using BARD or any other way since I don't have the same address I had when I last updated with them?
Or does anyone else know?
I believe I was grandfathered in with a lifetime membership back when they had a one-time fee for college students.
Thanks

Hi Glenn,

I don’t specifically recall the process, but it was something like this. Long ago when I started using talking books, I needed to produce a doctor’s letter certifying that I had insufficient vision to read print, which I submitted to my NLS affiliate library. That satisfied NLS’s requirements. Later, when I wished to subscribe to Bookshare, I think that same NLS affiliate library confirmed that I was eligible for both services. If you’re already subscribed, I expect changing address would be a simple procedure. I’ve changed my address many times over the years, including from state to state, and don’t recall any disruption in service.

I just looked at the Bookshare homepage, and I notice a “Getting started” section: https://www.bookshare.org/cms/

Good luck.

Bookshare.org if you’re eligible which if you’re on this list, then you most likely are. Your local library’s online collection. There are a decent selection of eBook reader programs now that are Jaws accessible.

Learning Ally better known as RFB (Recording for the Blind).
BookShare hasn't been around that long.
Started out using them on 4-track reel-to-reel tapes which eventually
became 4-track cassette.

Yeah, I messed that up.
Last night I sent them an eMail from their support page.
They are probably wondering what I was smoking.

Learning Ally better known as RFB (Recording for the Blind).
BookShare hasn't been around that long.
Started out using them on 4-track reel-to-reel tapes which eventually
became 4-track cassette.

Not talking about iBooks or whatever that's called. Learning Ally's app is
not broken. Not the most intuitive app, but broken it is not.

Their iPhone app is ok enough. Not my first choice to listen to an audiobook

LOL,
The last time I got anything from them, they sent stuff out via snail mail.
But I'm guessing you can.
