Moderated Instacart Issue
Pam Ekstrand
Thank you. I made a note of this to check if I run into this again. It was strange, because I went back to my cart on the laptop the next day, and it was back to showing the “add to cart” button on a separate line. I definitely changed nothing between those times. They must have changed the version of Instacart.

There is another JAWS setting that can cause multiple actionable items to be spoken together when they appear on the screen to sighted people as one line. I believe the name of the option is layout and that the choices are simple and screen. The screen layout will cause speaking this way. |

Hi Pam,
If I temporarily want to turn off smart navigation for a website, which I would try with Instacart like Bill says, press jaws key plus X. There have been many times where I’ve turned off smart navigation, to make some websites easier for me to use with jaws. Mike |

I use the find feature when I'm maneuvering Instacart to add things to the cart.

Try using your jaws cursor. When you hear it on the add to cart part, use the left mouse button on the number pad and click it one time. This will, or should, add this to your cart. You may have to play a bit to find the perfect spot to click with the mentioned left mouse button. I normally place the jaws cursor on one of the first few letters. The second d within the word add, as in add to cart. Then click. It works for me with this problem. Sites are always changing and what is today is often not same tomorrow. This a prime example.
Best of luck,
Rick

In the past, when I have shopped for groceries using Instacart, after picking a category for example “Dairy”, I would arrow down and hear each product with an “Add to cart” button on the line below the product name and price. Now everything is showing up on one line, and when I hit enter, I am taken into the product description. I can add it to the cart there, but this ends up being much slower than just adding it to the cart from the listed products page.
This still works as it used to for me when my husband does it on his laptop. We are both using Windows 10 and JAWS2023.
The only thing that I know of that has changed recently is I had a windows update to Version 10.0.19044 Build and my husband is on build 19045, but it says we are both up to date.
Just wondering if anyone who uses Instacart has run into this?
Thanks

Hi, Pam. I have noticed this behavior if Smart Navigation is turned on in JAWS. You might want to check that setting, and see how it works if you turn it off, if it is indeed turned on.
