Moderated Screen is dark when JAWS is loaded

Bro,

After you find ScreenShade press the Alt key to open the menues.  Right arrow to the Action menu, and down arrow through this menu to see your options.  Also you should read through all these menues just to see what kind of options and keystrokes you have to get done what you want.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

When I make it to the edit box to change the keystroke, I do insert space, I was going to do escape, but after pressing insert space, it did the click sound so I couldn’t continue.

Yo Bro,

Old age my ass!  You may be having brain farts only because you haven't had your daily dose of beans, but old age, not even!  LOL  LOL

In answer to your query, yes the keystroke can be changed, but since I'm not going to change my keystroke I can't give you steps.  You can change this keystroke in the Keyboard Manager, Insert + F2 / Keyboard Manager.

When the keyboard manager opens make sure your on, Default, it's 35 of 147 in my Win10.  If you're not use first letter navigation until you land on Default, now tab 1 time into a long list of keystrokes.

To get to where you want to be type, ScreenShade, or just, screen, to get you close and then down arrow to get there.  It looks like more than 1 keystroke may need to be changed to do what you're asking to do.

Sorry I can't be of further help, but this is one keystroke I ain't messing with!  LOL

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

This is an old question but I can’t remember if I replied with this question. Ug, hate old age.

It’s not possible right to change a layered keystroke?

For example, I always fumble when trying to locate the F11 or print screen, I mean, I know where they are at but when trying to press it, I find myself, going to far, or not far enough.

The keys on this laptop are to close together.

So when I thought I could change the keystroke, from insert space f 11 to insert space escape, it made the click sound after insert space.

Yo Bro,

Open the Keyboard Manager by pressing, Insert + F2, navigate to Keyboard Manager and press enter.

You'll be in a long list of applicationss and if, Default, isn't highlighted press the letter, D , to navigate to it, it's 35 of 147, on my Win10 computer anyways.

Now, Shift + Tab, to get into the list of default keystrokes.  Type the word, screen, to take you close to where you need to be and down arrow to, Screen Shade toggle.  There 7 screen shade default keystrokes, you'll have to decide which one or how many of them you want to change.

Now open the context menu and navigate it to have a look at your choices.  There's an option to change the keystroke for

each one but, make sure you know the default keystrokes before you change them in case you want to change them back.

Hi Marty,

Here you go:

Note:  This feature is only available with Jaws2018 & Newer, running Windows 10.  I'm not sure, but possibly Windows 8.1 as well.

Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by F11 or Printscreen both toggle screen curtain on and off.

The screen shade setting does not appear in the Jaws Settings Center and is only accessible through the layered  keystroke feature or, Jaws quick settings.

The layered keystroke feature is when you  hold down the Insert key then press down the spacebar, let up on both keys, then press a third key to perform
a particular task.

In this case the layered keystroke to turn the, Screen Shade, On or Off task is below:

Hold down the Insert key, then press down the spacebar, now let up on both keys, and tap either the, Print Screen, key,  or the, F11 key.

With each press of this keystroke sequence you will hear Jaws report either, Screen shade on or, Screenn shade off.

Since the Jaws screen shade feature isn't available in the Settings Center, and can be only accessed by the 2 ways mentioned above, here's the way to
check its current setting through Jaws quick settings:

BTW,  whether you're in Explorer or a program, the screen shade setting is found in the General Options category of Jaws quick settings. So, when, in
or on, most places of your computer press, Insert + V, to open Jaws quick settings.
Down arrow until you hear Jaws report, General Options, and if Jaws reports that it's closed right arrow to open.
Now continue down arrowing until you hear Jaws report, Screen Shade, either checked or unchecked.  Pressing the spacebar will toggle this setting on &
off, checked being, On, and unchecked being, Off.

If you make a settings change for this setting or others, then tab to the, Okay button, press enter to save your settings changes & close quick settings.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi Marty,

In settings (windows i) there should be a sleep function. It looks like your sleep or your screen saver is turning on after a certain amount of time. You can change both of these to never or adjust the time to an hour or more if the 30 minutes is annoying you. I have a laptop and have mine now set to 10 minutes of nonuse. It saves power. On my old desktop I had it set to 30 minutes. All you have to do is press a key, any key will do.That will bring it up. I often weither press control or run my finger across the mouse pad. I used to jiggle the mouse to wake it up. It is on to save your monitor and to save power as well.

Marty, make sure that the power cord is properly plugged into the outlet and to the back of the monitor.

Hi,
JAWS key & space bar followed by F11. You can also access this through the JAWS utilities menu.

Toggling with the F11 will tell you either on or off for screen shade.
