All,
The question is self-explanatory, I hope. Happy to explain more if needed.

While in Word, open JAWS quick settings and type the word "override" in the search box. There is one result, something about title reading override. Use spacebar to turn it off either for the current document or for all documents.

Ann:
I tried to do this, but have had no luck so far.
I'm in Word, and am trying to access Jaws quick settings via insert 6 on the numpad.
I do get into the Jaws settings center, but when I type override into the search box, I get 0 search results.
Am I missing a step, or doing something wrong?
I'm using Windows 10 here with the latest version of Jaws 2023.

I think you need to use JAWS+V to get to quick settings, JAWS+6 just takes you to the settings center.

You want insert + v, not insert + 6.

Ann and Gene:
I got it now.
The override setting was turned off anyway, so I didn't change anything.
Sometimes, I get some additional unneeded Jaws verbeage when trying to read a table in Microsoft Word, so will continue to further investigate what the cause might be.
Thanks!

I know, I get that mostly while I am browsing the internet. I don't mind the feature, except for some web designers who like to be very wordy in their titles, so you end up with miles long titles for a word long cell.

If you don't want JAWS to read the titles, turn override *on! You have a choice of "on for all files" or "on for this file". this overrides the JAWS automatic speaking of row and column titles.

while in a document, 1. Press insert+v to open quick settings. 2. In the search box, type the word "over". 3. arrow down to the only result, which is "define bookmark title column and row titles override". By default, it is turned off. 4. "override" in this case, means to override the JFW choice to display row and column titles, so turning on override means that JAWS will display only the row and column titles you bookmark, instead of displaying row 1 and column 1 as titles 5. Your choices are "on for all files", "on for this file" and "off".

May turn override on and see if things read better.
Sorry I was a bit slow to catch on.

If you don't want JAWS to read the titles, turn override *on! You have a choice of "on for all files" or "on for this file". this overrides the JAWS automatic speaking of row and column titles. At 05:35 PM 1/8/2023, you wrote:

The override setting was turned off anyway, so I didn't change anything.
Sometimes, I get some additional unneeded Jaws verbeage when trying to read a table in Microsoft Word, so will continue to further investigate what the
cause might be.
Thanks!

You want insert + v, not insert + 6. At 03:01 PM 1/8/2023, you wrote:

I tried to do this, but have had no luck so far.
I'm in Word, and am trying to access Jaws quick settings via insert 6 on the numpad.
I do get into the Jaws settings center, but when I type override into the search box, I get 0 search results.
Am I missing a step, or doing something wrong?
I'm using Windows 10 here with the latest version of Jaws 2023.

While in Word, open JAWS quick settings and type the word "override" in the search box. There is one result, something about title reading override. Use spacebar to turn it off either for the current document or for all documents.

All,
The question is self-explanatory, I hope. Happy to explain more if needed.

I apologize if this has been covered in this thread earlier; but a question on this topic occurred to me this morning so I started reading the msg traffic.
I look at tables daily be it for sports scores and standings, schedules, stock quotes, whatever. Often the row/column title are invaluable in knowing where you are; and, at other times, it's not important if I have a sense as to how the table is laid out on a web page. Shouldn't this be a simple one-key toggle hotkey back and forth as needed? Is it exists, what is it or is there a way to create it? If there isn't such an animal, Freedom Scientific ought to create one, someone develope a script to do this? If this doesn't exist (and this is possible and I'm not aware of it), I perhaps ought to write a note to Brian Hartgen and see if he can come up with something in Leasey to do this (if he hasn't dones so already)?
Thanks for reading this; and sorry if I am asking something that has already been addressed.
