Moderated using control/arrow keys

Hello, for the last two days when I use the control and arrow keys to move around in Outlook 2016 and Word 2016, there is a problem with Jaws reading. What happens is when I press the control key and the right arrow nothing is said. I know the word I’m on and the word after it. There are times I will press the control key and right arrow key and the second word is not spoken. I will have to press the arrow key 1, 2, 3, 4 times before it moves to the second word. If I just arrow to the right it does the same thing. If I use the control and left arrow keys it works find. I then go back to the right and it works. I have repaired Office 2016 and Jaws. The problem still happens. Oh, I updated the keyboard drivers as well. Could this be a keyboard problem? The laptop, windows10 is about 2 years old. It is an Asus 7th generation. Any thoughts?

Well, it sounds as though your control key and arrow keys function as they ought to elsewhere, so I wouldn’t think the keys themselves are a problem.
This reminds me of a problem I had years ago with JAWS, only it was JAWS’ failure to read lines as I used the up and down arrows. I’d consider doing a JAWS repair. If you need a refresher on repairing JAWS, please post back.

I know what you mean about the num lock. If the num lock is on and I use the num pad for the arrows, numbers are activated.

I wanted to do a Jaws repair and my method didn’t give me the choice. I went to FS and found the link for Jaws2022. I downloaded it and then activated the exe file. It never gave a choice to install or repair. It said it was installing. Should I have done it in a different way?

I've got to call Microsoft myself for a similar problem.
I was told by a man from freedom scientific, that I might need to update my office 16 version, but to call Microsoft to do it.
For me, the version says that I can't get another update.
However, I was instructed to call Microsoft because they might be able to upgrade my office 16.
From what I understand, there are upgrades I can get.

Hi Kevin,
I take it you’re using JAWS 2022. IN order to do a repair, you now need to download the .EXE file for the exact same release you installed.
Go to the “About” section of the JAWS menu of the installed version and determine the release number. Make sure it’s the same as that in the name of the .EXE file.
Once you confirm the installed and .EXE releases are identical, the method you describe should work. JAWS won’t say “installing.” As I recall, it says it’s doing a repair. Be sure to follow prompts.
I notice Justin says he was advised to upgrade from Office 2016. It happens that when I was experiencing different problems with 2016, my tech guy upgraded my Office 2016 to 2019 without incurring a charge. Perhaps that’s the route to take.
