Moderated A question about the new Winamp with JAWS

Dave Durber

Hello Everyone:

For the past week or so, I am being prompted as to whether I want to download and install the latest version of Winamp when I launch Winamp?

Has any one tried it? Is it as accessible as versions of Winamp, up to 5.66? If it is not accessible, how can you stopt the prompt window constantly appearing?

Is there an option to check for updates at start up? Maybe you need to turn it off. Just my thoughts since I don't use Winamp, it just seems like a logical solution.

The latest version of Winamp is:

Winamp Version 5,90,0,9999

You should be able to download this version from:

https://ninite.com/

It is very accessible and usable with JAWS 2023. It should work just as well with JAWS 2022.

Running Windows 11 and Jaws 2023.

You can see the what’s new, basically an excerpt from the changelog, on the winamp site. I ahven’t downloaded it, myself, and am still using 5.666 on my desktop and 5.8 on my laptop, but they didn’t make any changes to the interface. So, it will workt he same, and with any old or new JAWS version.

Works like the old version so just keep your old settings.
The big advantage with the new Winamp is that it can play https urls which
5.66 could not.
I've saved 5.66 just in case something comes up requiring a return to the
former version.
But go ahead and give it a try; you shouldn't have any issues.

Yes there is, however, whenever I install Winamp, I always uncheck it.

Hi all,
Making fairly limited use of win amp, I have had no issues with the latest version except for two things. First, I used to have win amp automatically play radio stations whose file was compatible and which have been selected as win amp has been made my default program unless a stations has a general streaming feature and no alternative players' feature. Now, I find that the previously selected station/feature will be playing and I need to hit "x" to make my new selection play.
Secondly, title/artist information do not show in a stable way with my display vibrating. I have to use alt-tab to get it stabilized, but then it does not seem to change with a new song etc. unless I alt-tab again. If anyone knows what I need to change, I would greatly appreciate some feedback, otherwise no problem with the latest version here.
Cheers to all,
Takis

Hi, Dave. Don't wait to get the prompt. This will just lead you into a
prompt loop that is hard to exit. Instead, when you start Winamp, and figure
out how to get out of the prompt loop, press CONTROL plus P for Preferences,
Arrow up to General, and TAB to the Check for new versions of Winamp at
startup, and uncheck this check box.

Hey.

I don't know how to solve the second problem, but that's not an experience I have with v5.666 or I think 5.8.
But instead of alt-tabbign away fromt eh window and backa gain, why not just hit alt-3 to display the wanted information?
