FOr new JAWS users, I have a document on how to update JAWS for Windows.
Instructions for updating JAWS for Windows If you have an older version of JAWS, then here are the instructions to either check for updates or to update JAWS for Windows. 1. Open the JAWS window by pressing Insert J. 2. Once in the JAWS window, press Alt H to open the help menu. 3. Press the up arrow till you get to the Check for updates option and press enter. 4. Press enter and you will hear the following message: Checking for updates. You will get either one of two messages. If you have the latest version of JAWS, then you will hear: Your JAWS is up to date. If you have an older version of JAWS then you wil be presented with a list of options. You will hear: The following update is available: JAWS Version 2023.2210.29. 5. If you get a newer version to install presss the spacebar to check the item and press enter to proceed. 6. You will be presented with a screen to accept the licance agreement and simply press the spacebar followed by enter. 7. Press enter and this will start the installation process. This will take several minutes. 8. Once the update has been installed, you will hear the following message: JAWS needs to restart your computer so the changes can take affect. Press enter to restart now or you can press the tab key to restart later. Only use the restart later option if you are currently working on a file while the update is being installed. |

If I'm not mistaken, these instructions are misleading. They work for updates to an existing version, true, but I don't believe they work if Vispero issues a completely new version, such as the current 2023. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I know you will!!

I rely on Mike B's posts about new releases and versions. In addition to saving me from checking from time to time, Mike links to the actual executable file. Installing from that file has proven to be more dependable than the method described below. also, having the file on your system makes repairing simple. As an added bonus, Mike always adds the list of improvements and fixes. -- My novel Caroline is now available in paperback, Kindle and audiobook versions and, for qualified readers in the US, at the National Library Service/BARD. I got the update notice that 2023 was available when I was running 2022. This notice popped up if I rebooted or sopped and restarted JAWS.

I truly appreciate Mike's e-mails regarding Jaws updates. In addition, I've found that saving the executable files and then using them to install the updates tends to be more reliable and less problematic than using the Jaws update function. These are just my thoughts, of course. Tom Behler -----Original Message-----
